Dead MAF

After i had a lambda failure i also got a MAF fault.
After i did some checks with vag-com i saw that there is really no output from my MAF. i read a steady value of someting like 0.18 g/s.
can i now safely say my MAF has died. or do i have different electrical problem because my Labda also failed.

I think it's a bit suspicious that within 2 days both my lambda and my MAF died.

I contacted my dealer and they think it has to do someting with my car being tuned.
I did replace my stock airfiler with a K&N panel filter just before the problems showed up.

anybody any comments on this? or does anybody know how to test the MAF disconnected from the car to see if the MAF is really dead.

Hi

K & N Filters and MAF sensors DO NOT GO!

I fitted a K & N to my Leon for a short while before changing back to standard, for the last 18 months I have had a flat spot at around 3K rpm, finaly took it to my dealer, took the MAF off, and you can smell it burnt out, fitted a new one, seems OK now.

K & N was only in for about 3-4K miles.

Cheers

Stu

Think the K&N is slightly more heavily oiled than other aftermarket filters, like the Green Cotton one, which leads to MAF failure due to oil contamination....

I had lambda sensor and MAF go within the space of a couple of days - It almosts seem without one, the other is quick to follow. Lambda was £20, MAF was £50 off ebay, brand new and authentic too.

I have had 3 MAF sensors die so far with in 1.5years of my octy VRS' life, and have been changed on warrenty. I had a pipercross viper induction kit fitted which has not been oiled at all, because i heard about oiling causing MAF problems, so didnt oil it. The last sensor i had changed, i was told by skoda technical they wouldn't replace it again cos they thought i had an induction kit on (and thought correct) and thats the main reason for them failing(??? under spec'd sensor???). They seem to think that induction kits allow in too much moisture which is the cause of them failing. So i have had to revert back to standard air box for now!
Has anyone heard anything simular or got any good way of upgrading the MAF sensor to something that works!

Unhappy

The above is a little worrying . I've just fitted a Green panel filter, which is lightly [pre-]oiled panel filter, which, although not a full-blown CAI, still has some oil which may affect the MAF.

The new panel filter is less than half the thinkness of the oem filter, which was cloth/paper based, so moisture might also be a problem.

Does anybody here think this is anything to worry about?

just get a pipercross panel filter, much better than cotton ones. they have a larger surface area and don't clogg up as easily. the oil is nothing really to worry about if done properly.

I had a Pipercross in my old Cavalier Sri (no problems there, at all ). I would have gone for one again (over K&N, heard about oil problems before), but I went with Green [panel filter] because it appeared to have the consensus on the forum (and Demon Tweeks had them cheap).

I've had no problems with the MAF for 32,000 milles (car has 'out-of-warranty' mileage), but I wouldn't want to develop any now

What's the longest someone has ran a Green panel filter here, without problems?
