Hi lads,

Can anyone recommend me a cheap but still reasonably good USB vag com cable ?

I see a lot of cables on ebay but have no experience with them.

Any info greatfully appreciated

Cheers

Re: ebay or other cheap vag com cable recommendation needed

As far as I am aware and hopefully someone will confirm but the best cable is from Rosstech as it is the official cable. I believe if you use an ebay cable you lose some of the features with vag com. Hopefully someone can confirm as I am thinking about buying a cable as well.

Re: ebay or other cheap vag com cable recommendation needed

If you have £100+ to spare get a proper Ross Tech cable, otherwise take your chances and get one for a tenner off fleabay. Obviously there is a risk with the cheap ones. I bought one and after some fiddling I got it to work but other people haven't.

Also without the proper cable or a software licence you can really only read and clear any error codes, you can't change anything. Depends on what you want it for.

Search the VAG/Diagnostics forum on here and all will be revealed...

Re: ebay or other cheap vag com cable recommendation needed

I got my cable from eBay and after some fiddling with Com ports got it working OK but with my copy of Vag-Com being unregistered it's limited in what it will do.

Martziniuk, KINel, and Monkeychild: Can you please tell me WHICH eBay cables you bought? There are so many out there that I am clueless as to which will work with my 2005 Fabia 1.4 (Petrol); AND, please tell me which SOFTWARE you use? Is there Diagnostic software which comes with it? Or must you buy that separately? And lastly, aside from clearing error lights, what CHANGES CAN you make with these cables?? Thanks!

The ebay cables will only allow you to use the evaluation version of vagcom legally, you will be able to view fault codes but very little else.

And before anyone says otherwise we do-not condone the use of the pirated software on ebay and all references will be removed.

Re: ebay or other cheap vag com cable recommendation needed-Moved

Mine was from a seller called szhid, they come from hong kong.
Like this one USB Vag-Com Cable OBD Interface VW Audi VagCom OBDII 2 on eBay, also, Diagnostic Tools Equipment, Garage Equipment Tools, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 28-Jul-08 17:19:43 BST) he also has auctions which you may get one cheaper.
P.s this is not pirated software just a cable

I bought mine from ebay and had no problems, and if you can get it working with the shareware version of VAG-COM you can buy a license from ross tech for US$99.
