engine coolant temperature sensor

could anyone help as to where i can purchase a new one of these as skoda have quoted me £100 and i think this is rediculous its for a 1.9 tdi mk1 octavia, ive had a diagnostic test done due to the engine managemen light being on and that is the problem that has come up, should i have noticed any difference in power with that fault or any other problems?? i am also wandering if you can fit any universal big bore exhaust to a diesel engine or if you have to find diesel specific ones to fit, if so where do you find them please help i am having major trouble finding any mods for the car

Re: engine coolant temperature sensor

This should fit eBay.co.uk: GENUINE, VW, AUDI, SEAT, SKODA GREEN 4 PIN TEMP SENSOR (item 270137987970 end time 06-Jul-07 19:41:09 BST)
I cannot believe skoda quoted you that much, Are you sure it was that part that you needed as £100 sound very expensive.

Re: engine coolant temperature sensor

Hope this helps, my sensor replaced twice and did not cure problem in end needed whole thermostat, sensor is part of it anyway,£100 seems about right. Thermostat omplete is not much more but luckily mine was under warranty. Howeverit is 1.4 petrol. Thermostat problem is common.

Re: engine coolant temperature sensor

Assuming it's not massively different on your Octy to a Fabia, the sensor should cost about £25 from a dealer, and the complete thermostat not more than £35. Replacement of the sensor is a very easy to easy DIY job, depending on the model, but definitely worth doing if you're watching the pennies! I gather it's not significantly harder to do the whole thermostat assembly. In either case, you may need to drain the coolant, which is an extra expense, I suppose that will be included in the dealer's quote. And labour of course.

The ebay sensor is therefore cheaper, but the only thing I'd say about it is that it's green and supposedly replaces blue and black ones. The one I got from a dealer six months or so ago was light grey (as was the one I removed, in fact), so it may or may not have been newer than the green ones. Someone on here with more knowledge should be able to confirm or disprove that, if you're concerned...

Re: engine coolant temperature sensor

I think the £100 may have included fitting.
