Re: help with vag com

Have you got the drivers installed for the cable correctly?
and if so have you checked and set the correct COM port in the options menu of vag-com?
My ebay cable came with instructions to install a supplied driver yet won't actually work unless you allow the computer to access the internet to search for drivers .
Bit pointless installing the driver supplied really but I digress!
Once installed if you go into device manager with the cable plugged in and go to ports (comm and lpt) then find "usb to serial" or similar, then check the com port assigned to it.
When you open up vag-com go to options, select the com port (can only be 1-4 I believe so you may have to force the usb driver to use another port if this is different in manager) and test.
If all works, save and you're good to go! .

Re: help with vag com

good point that Stu,
I was typing quick cos my laptop battery was about to die!
Also I found that once the test was complete and I'd saved the settings it wouldn't work under "select control module" until I'd done the auto scan (which fails half way due to not registered), then I could select a module to connect to fine after that.
Hope this helps.

I've been speaking to Kenny and that was one of the first things I asked as well as making sure the OBD connector is pushed on firmly. He's gonna try a few things tomorrow and let us know.

Re: help with vag com

Which version of the software is it? Some ebay cables only work with the older version which was less USB friendly.

My Ebay cable however, works with all, including the latest, versions of VAG-COM.

Re: help with vag com

No.

When you plug it into the USB port, windows pops up a box in the lower right corner of the screen saying "foun dnew hardware: Ross-tech interface".

If it does that use the hardware wizzard to search for a drive rin the VAG-COM installation folder.

Yes, you need the full version.

Has your friend got the full version? Maybe you could install it and borrow his laptop?
