1/2 inch water in spare wheel well

Hi,
Recently bought Fabia vRS (14th Dec 06), 15k, 04.
Anyway, cos I'm a super-cautious so and so, I decided to get an extra spare alloy - OK, scuffed, kerbed, but at £40 delivered it will do.
Tonight (yup, one brill advantage with this super smaller motor is that I now have an extra foot or more in my standard-poxy sized garage so I can do all sorts of things to it out of the cold and wet) , I thought I'd check if the alloy wheel would fit where the spare wheel sits prior to getting the 3 tyres I've ordered fitted ( 2 for thin fronts, 1 for alloy to go in spare wheel well).

!!! There was 1/2 inch water sloshing around - I hadn't noticed it before because I hadn't removed the container for the jack, wheelbrace etc.

Dried it out, alloy wheel will fit (thank Dog).
Though the spare wheel is full size AND the tyre is the same as the originals (Primacy 205/45/16) there are '50 mph warnings' plastered all over the steel wheel - any idea why ?

Also, are the two large grilles to the rear of the spare wheel just for ventilation purposes ?

The 50 mph warnings are because some of the tyres fitted as OEM on Fabias are directional, and should only go on one side of the car. Hence there is a 50% chance it will be fitted on the 'wrong' side of the car, and needs to be restricted.
The grilles are the only stale air vents letting air out of the car, and the wrap-round rear bumper on the vRS shields them from the airflow, so they don't work too well. Hence the threads about heavy condensation in Fabias. (Ventilation is much better with the rear seats down)

Wondered if that was the case.
re the 'heavy condensation' - luckily not been affected by this (despite this extra load of 1/2 inch of water) - the dealer had already resealed the rear NS door.
Thanks for replying.

Don't thing any Fabia vRS's came from the factory on Directional Tyres. They may have been fitted with Asymmetrical tyres which can be fitted to either side when on the spare
