1.4 tickover

Hi all,

I have recently traded in my trusty Favorit Blackline Estate for an 03 fabia comfort... (after much pressure from the better half).

I find that the tickover seems "lumpy" to me. The revs often seem to be hunting. I have taken it back to the dealers ( A main skoda dealership) who tell me it is fine as the Fabia should be "constantly checking the tickover - and there is no fault".

What are other folks experiences? Is the tickover of your cars rock solid, or does it vary!

I also now find the rear of the cabin is soaking wet... Humph, one of the reasons for getting rid of the old blackline was the soggy carpets in winter.

Cheers all,

Paul

Re: 1.4 tickover

Is it an MPi or 16V? My Mpi 8v does 'hunt' very slightly but its almost un-noticeable really. As for the carpets , you'd better get back to your dealer (is is Skoda Approved?) and complain , its a known fault and should be easily rectifed , something to do with the door seals IIRC?

Re: 1.4 tickover

Tickover on the 1.4mpi can 'hunt' at times and also whilst seemingly being stable at around 800 - 850rpm, lumpy. Nothing wrong with it, I have four Fabias in our Company and they all do it! If it ever seems to get a little too lumpy a quick blip on the throttle will help.

It is all down to the ECU trying to mix all the variables together to keep an even speed. I guess its just a case of even the best of brains can't do everything all of the time!?

Re: 1.4 tickover

I also have a 1.4 MPI, and when I got it, it hunted a bit. As the miles rolled on, it became lumpy, nothing serious, but still. I gave it some intake cleaner, and that really helped, and it is now back to just "hunting". :-)

Re: 1.4 tickover

Cheers all,

Its put my mind at rest about the tick over.

The car is going back next week ti fix an electric window that has a mind of its own (including getting stuck fully down).... I'll press them about the soggy carpets then.

Cheers,

Paul.

- Life was much simpler with the favorit - If it broke, I fixed it... Now I open the bonnet of the Fabia and I have trouble finding an engine beneath all the gubbins in there... Progress I guess but its going to be hard on my wallet!

There's a Haynes manual coming out for the Fabia in December, which should help a bit.
