1.4TDI power problem today. Any thoughts?

I've driven about 150 miles in my 1.4TDI in a single journey today.

Just after I started out I noticed the power momentarily dropping slightly occasionally.

As I carried on this developed into a distinct lack of power at slow speeds and pulling away at junctions with the engine sounding rough. As I gathered speed things settled down. I obviously stopped and checked under the bonnet but really didn't know what to look for and it sounded ok at idle so decided it was best to continue on as I was heading home and the ECU light wasn't coming on.

I dropped the car at my local garage (not a Skoda dealer) rather than going straight home and they had a look as soon as they got a chance, about 45 minutes later. They stuck their computer on it but it gave no fault codes so they test drove it ant it behaved perfectly.

I've driven it about another five miles without problems.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or do you have any suggestions as to what might be the problem?

Had you only done short journeys before?

If so, it might have been that the battery was a bit flat and the good run charged it up again.

No, had driven over fifty miles the day before, over one hundred and thirty the day before that.

Water in fuel filter? More likely is intermittent electrical problem. See the threads on using silicon grease in MAF connection (Basil I think wrote original). Mine was always a bit rough first thing in the morning and had a real lag on pulling away until doing this. Amazing difference and nothing to lose.
Best of luck

It's done it again this morning and this time the ECU light has come on. Local garage plugged in their magic box and its given a code for an electrical problem on pump 1.

Just had a look. Sounds like a useful tip.

Have just found Silicon Dielectric Grease at £2.50 a tube on eBay.
