I have a 130PD lump in my car and pressing the clutch in that reduces the noise.

But have you got an unacceptable level of noise at idle without pressing the clutch?

Mine is a PD100 that's just ticked over 68k miles. What kind of noise are you talking about? My gear stick vibrates occasionally at idle, but apart from that, I haven't noticed any untoward noises.........

Sounds like a clutch release bearing, however, clutch, flywheel, bearing and gearbox have been changed - fault still there!!

No noises from mine - the engine note changes very very slightly when depressing the clutch, and it always had, in both PD100s I've had. Also, resting my foot on the clutch when up, makes vibrations too, but then I just learnt to keep my foot off the clutch when in neutral/stopped.

You sure its not just the "nack nack nack" of the engine Other than that I can't say anything - I've done about 80Ks in PD100s with no drivetrain problems at all.

So from what I'm hearing here, it is looking like, after a new gearbox and clutch assy - the problem is possibly an unserviceable assembly on fit!! and not the old "well it may just be inherent in that model's gearbox sir"

How old is the car and what mileage? I'm assuming the new gearbox is under warranty!

Hope it fixes the problem............

Chris

Nov 02 with 34k on it - well I hope this sorts it. You wouldn't have thought that you could get an unserviceable gearbox on fit. The gearbox was only fitted on Thursday last week!!

I bought a 100PD engined Fabia about a year ago and have always been disappointed in the amount of transmission noise at really low road speeds. When driving at tickover - e.g. in traffic jams - the transmission is quite vocal, making a low course growling noise. This can be heard up to about 15 mph. There is also sometimes a light clonk from the transmission on changing gear as the clutch is released.

Also in neutral at tickover, there is a slight noise from the gearbox which disappears when the clutch is depressed. I had the clutch release bearing changed under warranty but this made little or no difference. I had a test drive in a VRS and the transmission on this (new) vehicle was almost silent - a different gearbox completely.

I have had my car to 3 Skoda dealers for the growling transmission and all of their mechanics have agreed that the transmission is a bit noisy but as soon as the warranty rep appears they start to say things like "within manufacturing tolerances".

I am coming around to this view, having taken the car from 12,500 miles to 33,500 with no apparent worsening of the noise. I think part of the problem is that the car is generally very quiet so small noises that wouldn't be noticed on an inherantly noisier car tend to get your attention in the Fabia.

Doubt its the clutch release bearing ..the noise would get worse when you depress the pedal ..
Does the noise occur in neutral with the clutch up as well ?
