£130 for steering wheel sensor?

The orange steering wheel light came on (looks like this O!) so I took it to the dealers to get it hooked up to the computer. The guy said that the steering wheel sensor has gone, whatever that is lol... and said its £130 for parts+fitting ... so i cashed up...

did I get conned or is that price about right?

The sensor alone is over £80.

Just had mine replaced - £136 inc. labour.
Was the warning light the only symptom? In addition to this, mine intermittently lost the PS totally, especially noticeable at low speeds, eg when parking.
I understand that there was a design fault with the early sensors. If that is the case then surely Skoda should be at least making some contribution to replacements which are out of warranty. Grrrrrr!

It may be Ebay but the seller is very trust worthy, I have bought lots from him.

awt41 : yeah, the light didnt come on all the time. 50/50 really.. but when it did, it was difficult to steer at low speeds, like you said. My car is a 51... was the design fault on these models or earlier?

VRStu : yeah, ive bought/sold loads of things on ebay.. i made a lot of money from selling motorbike decals that my work experience company gave me

Mine's also a 51, so not sure how long the problem lasted.
I've seen lots of posts on this forum from people with the same problem but they don't usually say how old the car is. It'd be interesting to know how long this fault existed before Skoda did something about it.

I wouldn't moan too much ... when this sensor died on my smart passion (stuupid name or what?) it cost over £500 for a new steering wheel

Couln't you have just bought a replacement Smart for that money?

TBH, £130 to fix a fault like this seems pretty reasonable to be honest. Its a 3 year old car, a few problems are to be expected...

Just think what would be going wrong with a 3 year old Paxo!

No problems with the PAS sensor in my old 2001 Y-reg Fabia (and that was sold with 80k miles on it!)... had several other problems though
