Is the handling on the Fabia that bad as standard? I think the Ibiza handles really well and didn't think the Fabia would be much different.

Re: £1400 what to do

If you want a cheaper day out (than Don Palmer) homing in on driving skills, you can come to the track day in a couple of weeks at Hullavington. There's some expert tuition thrown in and a social event too so the opportunity to have passenger laps in cars in various states of tuning

No substitute for a proper one-on-one training course, but a good friendly starter

Re: £1400 what to do

What a great question / situation.

The possibilities are numerous and the final package will of course be down to your taste but heres a few ideas to start the ball rolling:

All prices are approx and will depend on make and specification.

Strut Brace: £50 Seat - £68 Forge (fit yourself)
Jabba Rear ARB: £230 ish Fitted
312 Brakes: £250 - £??? + Fitting (Depending make and spec)
Springs: £150 + Fitting (Depending on make)
Dampers: £300 - £400 (Depending on make)
Coilover Kit: £300
Exhaust - Cat bypass: £150 (ish) + Fitting
Exhaust - Full System: £220 (ish) + Fitting
Remap: £250 - £500 (Depending on make and spec)

If you shop around you should be able to get: strut brace, Jabba ARB, Lowering springs (use Standard shocks), full exhaust and remap for £1400.

Or any combination you prefer. Happy deciding.

Nope, the handling is fine as standard. In fact for most people it's a good compromise between handing and comfort. However for those that want better handling, like any car, it can be improved (usually at the expense of comfort).

The handling is dangerous as standard if you ask me.

I wasn't a fan of the standard setup either and I didn't think it did handling or comfort particularly well on anything other than a smooth road. The damping seemed to be a bit out of sync with the stiffer springs, and I've found the same on the Octavia Mk1 vRS too. Pitching and diving under accelerating and braking also seemed very pronounced.

Maybe some FSD's on standard springs would improve things (although I found Eibach springs and dampers did not compromise comfort at all)

Either way, it depends on how you want to drive it! If you're happy with the handling as is then don't bother modding it!

Sounds very much like a standard Golf Mk4 GTI, they handled terrible as standard IMO.

Re: £1400 what to do

Wasnt a fan of the eibach setup (springs/dampers) or when I had just the dampers and standard springs Did help traction and heavy breaking a little but not enough for the price. The arb on the other hand makes the car more adjustable on the throttle and gets rid of the dreaded understeer (if you keep it smooth)

The std setup if far from perfect.

Re: £1400 what to do

For me personally, if you wanted more power. I would spend it as follows

ITEM...................... AMOUNT........ TOTAL
Seat Strut Brace - £50 - £50
Jabba ARB - £230 - £280
312mm brakes - £250 - £530
FORGE FMIC - £500 - £1030 (I can't remember the exact price)
Jabbasport Remap - £375 - £1405 (assuming group buy price)

I'm sure you can find the extra fiver somewhere.
