Hi, I bought my VRS just after new year and it came with 17" wheels, presumably from the previous owner. These have 205/40 ZR17 tyres - Velocity Extreme written on them. Well the only "Extreme" thing they do is annoy me greatly - tramlining a lot and yesterday some near terminal understeer going from a dry part to only a slightly damp section of Tarmac. Also they have very little feel and noisy as hell compared with standard VRS tyres. So they have to go. Anyone any recommendations ? I'm usually up for Michelins on road cars but willing to look at alternatives. Blackcircles recommends Falken ZE 512, any views ? Alternatively anyone fancy a swap for standard ones ? They are TSW 17" alloys... Cheers A.

Re: 17" Wheels and Tyres The best road all season road tyre I've used in recent years is the Vredestein Ultrac. Would have put some on my Fab but they don't come in 16" and I don't wanna be spending too much on this car. Had Toyo Proxes T1S and found them pretty good with predictable breakaway and good wet performance, but soft and wear quite quickly. I had Bridgestone RE070's on my Scoob which were beyond awesome in the dry, adding 20mph to every corner, but tramline like Hell and are useless in the wet. I've used Hankook Ventus K104 and Aurora K103 as a budget tyre for many years on my old VW Corrado and never had a single problem with them. Also have good experience of Fulda Carat Assura. Ultrac's can be had for IRO £70 a corner, Toyo's about £60 and Hankooks as low as £45.

Re: 17" Wheels and Tyres Cheers, I do no significant miles (<5K year) so the Toyos seem like a good try. A.

Re: 17" Wheels and Tyres You will be hard pushed to get T1-s Toyos now. They have been largely replaced by the T1-r which give all the goodness of the S but last longer BTW I have to disagree about the Vredestien Ultracs which where in my opinion the worst tyres I have ever fitted to any car. By worst I mean just plain dangerous, they were lethal in the wet compared to the Toyos. The Toyos can be had for around £60 a corner too ![]()
