17559 Engine code 1.4 16v

Recently had my fabia 1.4 16v serviced at the skoda garage.

After approx 100 miles the engine warning light came on

I had the code read:

17559 Long Term Fuel Trim Additive Air ; Bank 1 ; Range 1 : System too Lean

the car also had too much oil in it.

Took it back had it drained and they said it was the oil and they reset the code.

Now after another 100ish miles the light is back on with the same code.

Has anyone else had this code before? Or any idea what could be the possible causes of it?

Pop the engine cover/air box off and have a look in the throttle body, see if there is any oil in it. I doubt that will be the fault, does sound like a faulty lambda probe I would think.

How does it run normally? Smooth or a bit lumpy?

Yes theres a film of oil in there.

They've said it needs new piston rings and this is a common fault and nothing to do with the fact they overfilled it with oil.

Oil vapour coming up past the piston rings?

27000 miles.

Not good. What year is your car and is it still under warranty, and how far was the oil above the top range on the dipstick?

Hi,
It's a 2002 plate. Not under skoda warranty.

The garage has said Skoda uk will pay half the labour or something.

This has been a very bad experience, I have no way to prove they have broken it. They insist that the oil overfill could not do it. I don't know enough about engines to know. I say to them you've broken it, they say no.

Re: 17559 Engine code 1.4 16v

Piston rings are common sadly.

Its not oil vapur coming up, its compression gasses going down, this creates to much crankcase pressure and oil/vapour is blown up the crankcase breather and into the air filter.

i'd say about 7mm+ above the top. They billed me for 4.1 litre and it takes 3.2 litre.

Piston rings is a common problem on the 1.4 unfortunately - hence Skoda UKs offer of half the labour.

I think the problem may have been accelerated by the oil overfill - but it would have reared its ugly head eventually...

Just curious, how does the engine cover come off the 1.4 16v....? Fiddling with mine...I can't get it off.

Pete.

It doesn't budge. On my fabia vrs, comes off very easily....on the 1.4 16v...it's fixed solid.
