Re: 17inch vRS alloys

Brand new, the cost a fortune. I would keep an eye out here, and go for some good second hand ones.

If you buy octavia vrs alloys secondhand for a fabia then ignore what the tyre condition is as you will need to replace them anyway with the correct profile tyre.

Re: 17inch vRS alloys

i see most members revert people to the for sale section on this forum if your looking for wheels etc.

Can i just ask as talked about above if you wish to put some octavia mk1 17" spider alloys on a fabia vrs what is the correct type profile you need?

Cant seem to find it on the search

If someone could tell me what tyres are standard on the octavia wheels and what they need to be changed to to fit on the fabia, id be grateful

Thanks

The tyre size for a Fabia vRS on 17" Octy alloys is: 205/40/17.
40 is required for speedo reading. I think the 205 can increase but I'm not too sure by how much.

Re: 17inch vRS alloys

205/40/17 or 215/40/17 for the Fabia.

I'd just track down a 2nd set then get them refurbed TBH...

increasing the width of the tyre would increase the total rolling radius (and mess with the speedo reading?), unless you alter the profile accordingly

Sorry, you've lost me.
I said: "I think the 205 can increase but I'm not too sure by how much."
Since the "205" is the width how can that have a function in radius?

Re: 17inch vRS alloys

because the profile is expressed as a percentage of the width; a 205/40/17 tyre is 40% of 205mm tall and a 215/40/17 tyre is 40% of 215 tall

Certainly is. What's wrong with just offering all the measurements in millimetres? Tyre companies are idiots.

Re: 17inch vRS alloys

Sorry, being thick, does fitting 215/40/17s have any negative effect? I'm currently using the 205/40/17s and they look too skinny.

Not really. I ran 215/40/17 on S3 rims with my 1st Fabia and agree, it seems to give a better stance with these slightly wider tyres. I had no issues with rubbing or anything like that, and it was lowered on Eibach springs.

215s tend to be a bit pricier though, going on MyTyres results. Don't think its as common a fitment.

Steve

Re: 17inch vRS alloys

Cheers That was my first Fabia, sold to a driving instructor in Preston, March '06

She was running Eibach Pro-Kit springs, what are they, -30 or 35mm (?), and OEM dampers.

S3 rims are well worth a look, if you fancy a change on your new red one! Some bargains to be had on them, if you look in the right places. Would have got another set now, but don't want to do everything the same

Cheers,
Steve

Re: 17inch vRS alloys

Cheers, the next set will be 215s then.

Talking of wheels, anyone know of a good place to get refurbs donee around the midlands? my octy 17s are curbed to bits as they stick out further then the tyre wall, previous owner did 3, i've just done the last one parking up a curb

Lap Tab have a good rep, Alloy Wheel Refurbishment West Midlands - Plastic Finishing and Painting - Classic Car Restoration - should be fairly near you, M6 J6.
