| Briskodian | Re: 19 and after a VRS From another 19 Year Olds POV I'd say the vRS is a bloody fantastic car. I got myself a Silver 07 Plate vRS about three months ago now. I am paying £1400 with Admiral with 2 years NCB at 19. I think maybe my area is the reason its a tad high, but may I add that I have had mine Custom Remapped and I DID declare it with them and they where fine about it. I can't tell you what it did to my premium though as when I sorted it all out on the phone I told them I was remapping it before I even had to they put it down as remapped. I wanted to ensure I'd have no problems at a later date. This will really only apply to young drivers and it may be me being abit of a fussy freddy but even though a standard vRS is only 130 BHP if you have spent two years driving something alot slower its a massive massive difference and in terms of your own capabilities don't get complacent and let the old girl catch you out. I am fairly lucky as alot of my friends are total sceptics and pessimists so naturally I didnt wanna prove them right and stack my car into a hedge in the first week but you definitly wanna take it easy the vRS isnt slow and with a remap the thing really really motors on and you can easily get yourself into trouble at times. I urm...keep meaning to tap up ScoobyChris for abit of advice on Advanced Motorist Training It might make me feel abit safer. ![]() |

| Re: 19 and after a VRS it should be funny when my mate laugh at me for buying a skoda and them i eat them all up on the motorway adn tell them to hurry while they fill up petrol...again while i am still on my first tank. thats what i most look forward to...the faces of people who see a skoda in there rear view mirror laugh and then try to put there footdown to leave u, and you go sailing by without even trying..... cant wait!!! |

| Re: 19 and after a VRS I am insured with MCE car insurance, Got the car when i was 18 and it wasn't _too_ expensive. I did have 1yrsNCB and Pass Plus. Im now 20 and the premium hasn't really gone down much, but its at 21 when you can start to make savings. Going from a 1l saxo, to the furbie is incredable. The ingear pickup is mind blowing compared to a 50bhp petrol, and 1 up or 5 up in the car, it still pulls. But like all things, treat it with massive respect. Albeit quick, the fabia is hardly the best handling car on the road, and when it *goes* it goes, understeer is a problem even compared to the saxo i had. Treat the car well, save the speed for the strights and get used to pushing the car to its limits on track days. You probably wont listen to my advice, i didn't when i got mine, but when you get thought a set of tyres every 6k miles, at £80 a corner, it hits the wallet hard. Remember, 60mpg is awsome, but £160 for a set of fronts every handful of months isn't, not when your used to paying £35 a corner and having them last 12months. Just trying to be honnest with you, there are large hidden running costs if you drive the car hard, and im sorry if im wrong, but if you've got a modded corsa, and you knocked on about not beign able to wait to blast your mates away, you dont sound like to type of driver to 'take it easy', so budget for regular oil changes and rapid tyre wear. Just my grumpy 20yr old 2p's worth ;-) |

| Briskodian | Re: 19 and after a VRS If its your name on the logbook then the policy has to be in your name with a parent as a named driver - put your mother down as it will be cheaper than your dad. The other thing to do is get it insured for driving only at certain times of the day its much cheaper - mind you only drive then otherwise your not insured. |

WTF - a set of new tyres every couple of months... if thats the case your either driving 4000 miles a week or driving like an idiot on the road. Are you driving around with your traction control switched off? If so why? turn it on and tyre wear (as clearly a set every few months = inability to deploy the power correctly). | |

| Re: 19 and after a VRS I test drove one today and all I can say is WOW Completely blew my mind... I was a little unsure of the best way to drive it as I havn't driven diesels before... but I wasn't putting my foot down until after 2.5k rpm as I read on here. Jesus christ the torque is brutal and it accelerates in every gear! The gearchange is slick.. and that 6th gear is very cool I was a bit apprehensive about the white seats... but they seem fine they seem to be made of quite a hardwearing material and are very supportive. interior is well built and I picked up a few tips from the dealer about how to spot a crashed VRS (e.g. curve on inside of front bumper... front wings etc) but yes as you say it does feel like a heavy car... handling a bit boatlike and so does deserve huge respect and that power needs to be kept on a leash and used appropriatly Just gotta find one for around 7,5k or less now! prefereably in silver hehe |

| Re: 19 and after a VRS Glad you liked it. If you don't come from a quick torquey car in the first place, the vRS is quite addictive. |

Yep i pay £1600 for my modded Fabia vrs And i struggle to find people to insure me due to the mods. Seems like you have to be over 25 to have a modded car. Also iam 21years old and have 4yr ncb etc etc so id say my insureance is rather expensive.

| Re: 19 and after a VRS Doubt I'll be modding it for a fair few years in that case. At 19 with 0ncb and driving 2 years admiral quoted me £1240 p/a with 1 named driver and £350 excess plus young drivers excess. is it because I live in a good area and only do around 6k a year :? |

| Re: 19 and after a VRS I live in a low crime area etc. Parked on driveway, Dad, step mum on policy and my gf too, she cost £100 to put on, so £1500 for a modded car. My dad and step mum cost nothing to put on. I do 12K a yr. Maybe I pay over the odds due to having wheels, tints, filters, exhaust, FMIC brakes, suspension and every ARB possible named on the policy. And ull be modding before you know it, since you have joined briskoda ull soon get the bug.

| Re: 19 and after a VRS What do you mean scoobychris? I drove one today and it felt bloody fast... oh course its not going to be stupidly fast when compared to "real" hot hatches such as the type r, corsa vxr etc but I bet it gives some "semi tepid" ones such as the C2 VTR, Saxo VTR, Corsa SRi a run for their money |

| Re: 19 and after a VRS Your biggest insurance savings come after 21. It goes down a bit at that point and again at 25. I was running a MKII CRX at 20 for £1k a year TPFT. My 320i was about the same (perhaps a little cheaper) when I was 23 but fully comp. Now 26 on the vRS is £450 a year, 4 years protected NCB and the missus as a named driver which brought it down by about £35 a year. When I was 18 I was running about in old bangers....most of my mates the same age were. It's all we could afford as we were at college, and the thought of £1400 insurance to me at that age is just insane. Run older cars for a few more years, get some age and NCB behind you and then go out and buy a nice car. Don't line the insurance companies pockets. Not only that but the vRS can be a handful. As above it's not the best handler in the world and mid bend if you are too hefty with the right foot heavy oversteer can take over and take the front end off in a straight line directly into the nearest tree. At least it's not rear wheel drive....

The Fab is fun fast and cheapish to run and will put a big on your face everytime you drive it. So the sooner you buy one the better. Have fun buying you wont regret it.

| Re: 19 and after a VRS £395 for a Custom Remap from Impossible Performance, will give you more accurate figures along the lines of 165-170, and a around 280 torque. Don't be entrieved to go for the high figures, as I mentioned before, my car, remapped by Impossible Performance, could quite easily over-take a lighter car, same power and torque, which was remapped by Jabbasport. Who, I think claimed he was around 185-190 at the time. |

| Re: 19 and after a VRS That's what attracts me to the VRS you see! The fact that so much can be changed for relatively little money if you wanted to I am deffo changing my car... no doubt about it.. you only live once I am extremely bored of it. But if I bought an Astra 1.8, Polo GTi etc... some 1.8 petrol unit which people would expect you to get at 19... I can see myself getting bored of it after a year or so... throwing 1k at it and only seeing a measly 10-20bhp gain. Plus the VRS will outlast and be more reliable than any Ford, Vauxhall or French equivalant |
