195 60 14 Tyres On A Fabia?

Hi All,

Could I get away with sticking 195 60 14 at the back of a fabia and 185 60 14s at the front?

Not quite sure - Would it be better then 185 60 14s all round?

Any ideas?

Cheers

You have the sizes wrong.

The second set of figures is a ratio to the width of the tyre, so to maintain the sidewall height you need different sizes. They should be.

185 60 14,
195 55 14.

You need to check that the wheel rim is wide enough to take the extra width.

You can do this, but you may get more understear. Much better to go for the 195s all round (assuming the wheel is wide enough).

Hmm - Thanks for the info - Really appreciate it.

The car at the moment has 185 60 14s all round - I am getting these replaced so I wonder whether I should get 185 60 14 s all round or 195 60 14 at the back and 185 60 14 at the front.

I did not even know they did 195 55s

In one sentence sticking 195 60 14s at the back is a NO?

I wouldn't suggest you mix tyre sizes - go for the same size all round for the reasons already suggested.

AAMOI, why the apparent fascination with wider tyres at the back?

Your rim size will dictate the maximum tyre width you CAN use, but that doesn't mean you should always go for the maximum width tyre. Tyre noise, ride comfort, wet-weather adhesion, under and over-steeer characteristics and so on all play a part as well, as does the ability of the car to store an over-sized spare in the wheel-well!

Kwik Fit has a deal on Continental Eco Contact 3s at the moment (Conti Eco Contacts were original equipment on Fabias) If you buy 4 you save 30% , thats about £70 you save on the 4 tyres , Roughly £200 for 4 brand new Conti ECT3s in 185/60 14 size , with H speed rating. The offer only lasts till May 24th , so any Fabia owners wanting some half decent tyres , get them ordered! Mine are going on tomorrow - I thought I'd only need 2 (sidewalls splitting due to age - 8.5 years old and original on the rear) but the 'super cheapo' fronts that the garage I bough the car from put on 3 years ago (Gislaved-Swedish , but made in Romania!?) have worn bald on the inner edges - tracking need done as well. Good job I got my Holiday pay on Friday ... lol!!
