Can you retro-fit vrs Third Rear Headrest?

Hiya,

Trying to place an order for a furby vrs and have a question about the third rear headrest option.

Numerous dealers have said its a factory fit option only, and that we need to place a factory order. Now all of a sudden one dealer has said they can retro-fit this at the dealers...

So...

1) any one know if this is this correct?
2) will them cutting holes in the seat cloth cause me any issues later?
3) when its factory fitted, do you think someone just cuts holes in the seat cloth to fit it, or do you think its properly stitched etc and hence the better way to go.

Any help appreciated..

I would hve though the cover has the holes punched in it ready.

Not sure if the guides will fit in a std seat back, might well do if you have a three point rear belt.

If you run your fingers along the top of the rear seats you can feel the holes where the 3rd head rest fits. can you just buy a third head rest and the plastic inserts....the holes are already there?

Interesting.. I suspected as much.

One question tho'. Do you think the factory option would have the holes properly prepared e.g. reinforced, stitched round edges... or summin.

Hubby is worried that a retro-fit means that we end up with something that is inferior, less safe and prone to splitting later on.

No.........I think you will just "cut" and Insert the plastic housing in which the headrest fits but............Hey don't take my word for it

As I had third rear headrest as a factory option, I've just popped out to the garage to check ... all three sets of holes in the rear seats are exactly the same. They are not stitched or reinforced in any way ... the holes are just cut into the cloth and then the housing inserted as ag.m suggested.

In other words, there's no reason why you can have it retro-fitted as far as I can tell and equally no reason why it should be inferior if done as a retro-fit.

Little tip.... where you cut the X in the material put some glue on it... this will stop it freying (SP?)

I have a factory fitted 3rd rear headrest, the material has just been cut open to receive the black plastic inserts. The material surrounding the hole is not finished off in any way as the wider diameter flange at the top of the Black plastic inserts hide the gashness.

Does anyone find the 3rd rear head rest reducing visability at all? Anyone got a pic of one fitted?

It definitely reduces visibility further - the two that are there as standard already do.

I used to carry the headrests in the storage pouch I've got under the 'flap' in the boot, can't be bothered with that most of the time these days
