Try doing a search for the fabia cup hlder installation. This will tell you how to remove the vertical slat beside the area you are trying to access which may reveal anything you need to know.

Also try a search for the sliding out tray which can replace the gap as they will give you some good info.

It's held in by clips at the sides, a bit like the radio. To get at mine I took out the radio, and you can then press in the clips from above.

Following receiving some Kenwood stereo keys yesterday I started taking the facia to bits in the evening.

I took the radio out then took the open tray out beneath, then both vertical trims, the heather control trim and all the buttons... - and yes I have taken photographs throughout which will be on my website when I get round to writing it.

When I reinstalled I put the radio in (difficult because of getting the cables to lie correctly behind) then tried to get the tray in - but it wouldn't fit. The rear part of the tray is higher than the residual recess once the radio's back in.

Hence you have to take the radio out, at least part way, in order to get the tray out. As noted the tray clips in at the sides - you might find a thumb positioned each side pushing outwards whilst pulling will do it. Otherwise lever off the side trims (one catch top and bottom) to get better finger purchase.

I've resorted to drilling two holes in the right hand trim in order to mount my mobile phone holder - originally used sticky pads but they're not up to the job - now bolted on...

Cheers for the advice but i still cant do it and dont want to muck about with the radio ect ...so im gonna pop down to Skoda next week and ask them to take the tray out. On unrleated subject the Cupra Intake Pipe was an easy job just got to wait for the Green filter next week now.
