Re: Fabia vRS Dump Value??

it doesn't need a wastegate because it has a vnt turbo...

it is possible to fit a dump valve, there are some derv dump valves available but it is pointless because a diesel engine doesn't need one because it has no throttle body.

Re: Fabia vRS Dump Value??

the only reason i would get a dump value fitted is because of the sound. but apart from that is there any performance benefits?

Purely just a noise maker.

It's a Valve not Value

No real performance benefits, it has always made me wonder whether spending £200 for a noise is worth it???

Mind you i still kinda want one in a way, just cant part with my £££.

The petrol and diesel engine's are of a different design. Perhaps do a little research on Google and you'll find your answers.

Re: Fabia vRS Dump Value??

i'll breifly explain it....
in your petrol engine your turbo is spinning at say 100k revs.... suddenly your throttle closes, and turbo is still spinning due to inertia... consequently the air has nowhere to go because the thottle plate is shut... so the dump valve opens and allows this air to escape to the atmosphere(or back into the air box if a recirc is fitted)... this has the benfit of allowing the turbo to keep spinning in a partial vacuum for a longer period of time, and therefore takes less time to get back up to speed after you reapply the throttle..

on a diesel engine it isn't required because there is no throttle body, so the air doesn't get trapped like it does on a petrol engine.... in fact the excess air actually reduces the emmissions output from the engine and also has a mild intercooling effect on the combustion chambers

Re: Fabia vRS Dump Value??

a petrol turbo does benefit froma dump valve but a diesel doesn't, they are totally different things petrols and diesels and as such work in a different way.

a petrol turbo will benefit from a dump valve as it releases the excess pressure in the inlet system to stop it from going back where it came from and stalling the turbo creating more lag when back on the power.

Damn right they are! I havent actually got the factory HID xenons tho. I have nice uprated, Super Brilliance xenon bulbs, they cost about £20 each (i bought mine bogof at Halfords!) but they sure do the job! I think they look just the same.

I have upgraded my sidelights and full beams too, made a MASSIVE difference and they look oh so sweet. But they are a pain to get in, so little space under the Fabia vRS bonnet! Which is a good thing i suppose!

White with a little blue twinge when viewed from a distance. But very very bright. First thing i do to a car is upgrade the bulbs, makes such a difference, you can always tell a nice car when it has nice lights i think.

as already mentioned superchips is a brand name for a remap... and personally i would steer well clear of them...

custom remap's from the likes of jabbasport aren't that much more expensive anyway

Re: Fabia vRS Dump Value??

Sorry for hijacking the thread here, but vrsjamez, could you tell me where you got the sidelight and full beam bulbs from and what make/model they are? I've been looking into changing the lights and there's so many around I just end up confusing myself! So as well as the Super Brilliance bulbs what else did you have to purchase?

TIA

Nick

This kind of confusion stems from the olden days when OBDII first came in. OBDI required 'chipping'......as in the replacement of an EEPROM chip on the mainboard of the ECU as it wasn't flashable....the map was read only.

OBDII, in addition to extra diagnostic capabilities, introduced an editable on-board map that could be amended on the fly using special software. This is 're-mapping'.

As for the super bright 'Xenon style' bulbs....are they legal? Someone once told me they weren't.

I had them fitted to my 320i and they were awesome. Totally transformed the brightness of the beam. Gave off a slight blueish tinge too.

it has allways been posible to re-flash the non-volatile memory inside the older ecu's... it's just that most of the 'remap' companies couldn't figure out how to do it...

but with the advent of the CAN data bus and other simlar technologies, it has now become childsplay to reflash them..... a car's ecu isn't the only place you'll find a CAN data bus, quite a lot of professional digital audio equipment communicates using the same protocol as a cars ecu... strange huh?
