Sounds about right to be fair, diesels take alot longer to warm up than petrols in my experience.

Is there not an auxiliary heater on the Fabia diesels to get the cabin warmed up quicker?

Well, it might not, it's just something I'd come across on other diesels, so wondered if the Fabia has one...

Looks like you might be looking a pair of gloves then! Or one of those little bar heaters which stick on the dash and plug in the ciggy lighter socket...

The Fabia has both cooling system pre heaters and a electric heater for the cabin next to the heater matrix.

However they aint fitted to UK spec cars....bugger!

Slow warm-up

I'm having the same problem - a particularly noticeable slow warm-up time, during which my Furby drinks diesel like it's OPEC Benefit Week.
I'm partway through the install of a Kenlowe HotStart system - will post details and stats when it's done. (Electrics finished; dealer is doing the plumbing on friday)

My much hated a-class had a diesel heater, only worked when outside temperature dropped below about 6 degrees...

Bit embarrasing when sat in a queue of traffic on cold moring as it sounded like the car was powered by a jet engine, but it warmed the cabin up in no time, I didn't use a drop of de-icer in the four or so years I had the car.

I miss that heater, especially as my commute to work is now only 4 miles so glovers are essential on these cold mornings

How about an electric engine block pre-heater? I understand that some people swear that these increase engine longevity, although I don't know how well any gain weighs up against the energy costs of heating the block. Whatever, it might get the heater working sooner but perhaps the sledgehammer approach?

On some mornings on my 10 mile commute the engine is only half warmed up. Ive also seen the temp needle drop when i start moving from a jam which was very strange

Temp needle could well drop as when you start moving again air starts flowing through the rad again coolong the water back down, temp will also drop after the intail heat build up when the thermostat opens and lets water flow around the system.

The ASV type injection pump diesel had cooling system pre heaters for foriegn markets, much like a glow plug there were three of the sat down the side of the cylinder head in the top hose.

Never timed it but my car is normally getting hot by the time ive reached J15 on the way to work which isnt more than a couple of miles. Needle is usually on 90 degrees by then and the heater is just starting to get warm.

Heated Butt

Have the heated seats in my VRS, have to say worth every penny..................particularly as I didn't have to pay for them.

Heated seats are an excellent option, well worthwhile! Had to pay for mine, but at £125 its a complete bargain, especially at this time of year! I got the Furby in June so didnt really appreciate how much I would use them, but I just leave them on midway setting all the time just now, and they warm your *** within seconds. Don't use the dashboard vents for heating the car at all, seats warm me up enough.

As far as the engine temperature is, I would say its changed a lot now its winter, it used to be up to about 90 in about 2 mins. Now it takes a bit longer, say about 5 mins to get there. I've never timed it exactly, but 10-15 mins seems a bit much. I will watch mines tomorrow morning and see how long it takes.

i noticed that once the car is warmed up it stays warm for a lot longer than a petrol once the engine has been switched off

My Octy warms up a bit quicker than my wifes Furby but they both still take ages. My last two cars Scooby and Rover 75 V6 warmed up very quickly but with the fuel they used you could have set fire to a small forest.

I had a Rover 75 CDTi as a loaner last winter and that had a diesel cabin heater, you could set a timer in the arm rest for the time you wanted it to come on. Alternatively it came with a remote control with 300 metre range so when you got up in the morning you just pointed the remote at the car outside and by the time you had eaten your breakfast the car was defrosted and the interior lovely and warm. Didn't seem to use much diesel either.

Cheers
Lee

Any reason these heaters couldn't be retro-fitted?
