How long do the front tyres last on your vRS

Just wanted to see really what the average is for tyre life for a vRS to see what I can expect. Can you also post in order of how many miles you have had out of a set of tyres and the make too. You can also comment on your driving style too as this greatly affects tyre wear. Do you go round roundabouts flat out for example.

Please also say if you rotate your tyres, I don't but mainly because the last 3 cars I've had have always had average tyres on the back and I've always wanted the best ones on the front.

It will also be a helpful indicator for those who are not sure on what tyre to choose and may want tyres to last as long as possible.

Thanks in advance

Martyn

I have been told this by a few people but many have told me as it's FWD it's best to put the better ones on the front. Once my back ones do wear out they will all be the same make. I've never owner a car yet where this has been the case.

Re: How long do the front tyres last on your vRS

Recently changed my Continental's after about 8k miles (front ones)
I drive averagely overall, some days a bit 'enthusiastic'
Have now got 'Kumo's', do a search there's many many threads to explore on
this issue

Re: How long do the front tyres last on your vRS

always put the good tyres on the back.

I just had the fronts swapped for Coopers, and there amazing tyres realy good alround. But the falkens i have on the back have let go a few times.

If i break hard the back end seems to want to come round all the time, and i have a lot less grip when going round roundabouts and I have lost the back end a few times.

I had the back replaced as well now and the car is fine.

If you go to a good tyre place then they will put the new ones on the back.

Re: How long do the front tyres last on your vRS

I got almost 37,000 out of my original set of Bridgestones. The second set of Continentals lasted until 60,000 miles and the current Continentals look like new with 10,000 miles on them (current mileage 70K). If the rears hadn't gone out of round they would still be on the originals.

Re: How long do the front tyres last on your vRS

front tyres seem to last quite a while for me, which is quite odd given my power and unreserved willingness to use it all at times. Toyo T1-R in 215/40 R17 - usually 20k before needing new fronts.

Re: How long do the front tyres last on your vRS

FRONTS:

Michelin pilot primacy on when new, fronts lasted 20k

Second set were goodyear eagle F1 on fronts, lasted 30k

Third set on front were Bridgestones, these only lasted 13k??? (soft tyre??)

Forth set on fronts are Toyp Proxy TR1's, have done 13k and look like new, seem a very hard wearing tyre!!

REARS:

Michelin pilot primacy when new lasted 40k

Second set were the Bridgestones which are getting there at 36k

I don't drive like a nutter, well perhaps a bit of fast straight line speed and accelleration but not hard cornering.

best set for me for grip & wet handling are the Toyo Proxy TR1's

I never put cheap tyres on as it's the only thing that contacts the ground, so a few extra pounds for a better set is worth saving for!!

Hope this helps

Ben

You nutter! How come mine last so long?

Must organise another Ring trip so you can wear out another new set in one weekend.

One suspects you have the traction control switched off. Your drivetrain must be taking one heck of a hammering though if you're going through tyres at that rate. Still, as long as you're not hammering past schools at 80mph, it's your money

Re: How long do the front tyres last on your vRS

If youve got a LSD, your tyres will last longer.
And its all to do with how much you slip the clutch.
Aggressive starts dont just damage your tyres, but also your gearbox and engine mounts etc.

My Pirelli P-Zero Nero's lasted 16k miles on the front, and 22k on the back, never tracked, but driven hard-ish.

Re: How long do the front tyres last on your vRS

Usually around 12k. Pretty enthusiastic use really, with a fair bit of high-speed cornering. Don't tend to get abused off the line though.

Run T1-Rs.

Re: How long do the front tyres last on your vRS

My tyres last about 4-5 mounths (well the fronts anyway) not sure how many miles i do in that time lol
I have toyo proxes 4 which i find better than the T1R's and last longer too.
Tend to drive quite fast

Re: How long do the front tyres last on your vRS

Don't know! They were about half worn when I had the car serviced at 9.5K, so I'm thinking about 17-18K.

I miss my Astra - I only had to change the fronts every 35K and the backs only got changed at 100K when one of them got a bulge. Guess that was because I was doing more motorway miles in those days...

Re: How long do the front tyres last on your vRS

Massive variation for me.

Post-remap things were quite different, the Quaife sure helps extend tyre life. The Contis lasted 12k pre-remap, 8k post-remap (not enough grip/too much right foot ).

Putting on 17" wheels with appropriate tyres was a massive improvement with regards (front) tyre wear
