Re: How long do the tyres last ???

OK OK !

I only want a rough idea - not an answer like "12498 miles" !!!!

I'm trying to work out whether its worth taking out the fixed price maintenance/tyres contract.

Be gentle with me - I'm new here !!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: How long do the tyres last ???

I reckon I'll be doing 15k miles pa

Dont know what sort of tyres they are - I havent got the car yet !! They will be whatever come as standard on a new Fabia vRS.

Driving style - hmmmmmm I dont drive excessively fast, but can be hard on brake pads/discs.

Thanks for your help guys

Re: How long do the tyres last ???

do you drive to work? do you drive on motorways?

maybe a percentage of your usage may help. motorway miles are v.easy on the tyres aswell as traffic in the city. so if you do motorway milegae most they will last ages. If you are like me and have to drive down lots of bendy roads, loads of junctions ect then I can see they will last 15,000 max

So reading your driving style, "don't drive excessivly fast, but can hard on the brakes"! meens you drive fast enough, so I reconn you will get about 8000 on the front, and poss 10000 on the back.

If you set off like a snale and don't use your brakes then I recon you will get four times the milage at least, with carefull driving I get about 60K out of my tyres, and have had just under 100K out of my Van.

Then if you were going to drive like a saint ! then I guess you would not have gone for a VRs !

Re: How long do the tyres last ???

no motorways in deepest rural Norfolk !

Mainly "A" roads - not too twisty !

I expected 15k from them - but wanted to make sure !

Re: How long do the tyres last ???

Rule of thumb is probably more on how you accelerate/stop and how bendy your average commute or drive will be. The more motorway the longer they should last. I guess its pretty flat where you are, and from memory there's a lot of straight roads around Norwich? My guesstimate will be 20,000 for front tyres, 40,000 for the rears. (or around 30,000 for all if you rotate tyres at 15,000 miles for example) (assuming gentle style of driving in general)

If you get a remap I would halve these figures.

Re: How long do the tyres last ???

Had my Fabia vRS a year and done 20k miles and the original Bridgestones, which are down from 8mm originally to: 4mm on the fronts and 6mm on the back. Assuming I change at 2-3mm, that will give around 25k-30k on the fronts and 50k-60k on the rears. This has been mainly on A & B roads in Wiltshire at a fairly fast pace but little wheel spinning! Hope that helps your estimating.

Re: How long do the tyres last ???

I do mainly town driving - only the odd motorway trip (around 700 miles max in long distance work) and I've done 10k so far on the factory Bridgestone Turanzas in 14 months. There's 4mm left on the fronts and the rears have over 6mm. I'll probably get them swapped around sometime soon to even up the wear. So I'm estimating around 20k for the full set, or 15k for the fronts and 30k for the rears.

The vRS is likely to be hard on the front tyres due to the heavy engine and fat torque. I tend to behave most of the time, but am sometimes partial to a weekend blat or the odd bout of bad behaviour. A mate of mine with an Ibiza FR TDI who drives a bit like a loony munched the front factory Bridgestones in 9k.

Motorway work is a lot kinder to the tyres. I had 52k/4 years out of the factory rear tyres on my previous VW Bora. A high proportion of Motorway work between Manchester and Glasgow stretched the front tyres from around 17k to 28k a set.

Re: How long do the tyres last ???

Originals all round at 27k - rears are low but should be good for another 5-10k and fronts are 50% used so another 10-15K left methinks. I rotated at about 20k.

Tell you what, the roads in Wiltshire must be covered in silk ! (I know they're not as my Parents live there)
I live in Cumbria, twisty A/B roads and I don't drive loony. My tyres are being replaced today after 14k with 3mm front and 2mm rear. Fair enough, there's a little left but it's Winter soon and i'd like a bit of grip in the wet please.

Re: How long do the tyres last ???

Am i right in thinking wear markers are at around 2.5 mm?

Edit: No they're not at 1.6 before you say they are...

Re: How long do the tyres last ???

From your description, I reckon you'll probably be changing your fronts annually and the rears every 30k (at the soonest). So long as you aren't doing traffic light grand prix's and spinning the wheels at every opportunity they should wear nicely.

I'd be weary of choosing a contract which included free tyres though as I like to choose my brand and fitter myself
