Lazy oil warning light ? Just had my 1.4 16v back from local dealer. Whilst he was fixing my rear door seals again (!) told him how it sounds like a diesel - see previous post petrol but not so you would know. He found it was 2 litres below the recommended level. Car had been fully serviced by dealer Nov 2007. Now IF my car is the AUA/B type (think that's right) thats soooo low as to be potentially damaging. It only holds just over 3 litres! He topped it up with 2 litres and the rattle all but went away. Have done nearly 100 miles, all OK still. But why did my Oil warning light NEVER come on? Not once? Having only 33% of the correct amount of oil should have triggered something (quantity/pressure). Also oil warning light self test showed nothing (flashes I believe). I have checked the oil from time to time since having the car 6 months ago, all appeared OK,so I guess I just got unlucky. There is no loss in performance, no smoke during driving or start up. Any ideas welcome. Last edited by BlueSilver; 13-06-2008 at 17:12. Reason: spelling as suspect as oil light :@)

Re: Lazy oil warning light ? When you switch the ignition on but dont start the engine, the oil, battery and brake (handbrake) light should all be on. when you start the engine, only the handbrake warning light should be on. If this is not the case, further investigation should be done.

Re: Lazy oil warning light ? Your car wont have an oil level sensor, you car will still make oil pressure even with a litre of oil in it, however might not make it for long. No excuse for not checking your engine oil at least every fortnight, if the engine oil pressure light does come on it all to late anyhow.

I agree, I am used to my previous car being very economical with oil! I will now check the oil at least every 2 weeks, ideally weekly! Very suprised the light won't come on though with just one litre of oil in the engine. It does say that this should happen according to the manual...so suprised to learn there is no oil level sensor for my car...(maybe other variants) Last edited by BlueSilver; 13-06-2008 at 17:11.
