PD100 gearbox help!!

Greetings All,

All of a sudden this week our PD100 combi won't find reverse. The usual tricks of finding another gear first have not worked.

The clutch doesn't appear to be dragging and we have had no symptoms before yesterday ... help, wotsgoingonmister??

Re: PD100 gearbox help!!

If it's shot, I have a spare one for you I'll let go dirt cheap. Might even be able to bring it up to the Midland's for you as I'm up there in a few weeks time.

Symptoms don't ring any obvious bells with me though.

Re: PD100 gearbox help!!

Thanks for the offer Jason, I'll keep you updated.

A local non-VAG garage said it may be down to gear linkage adjustment - any ideas anyone?

Re: PD100 gearbox help!!

could be linkage/adjustment see if you can see anything obvious wrong with te cables on the top of the gearbox , iirc outer cable clips into a bracket with a springy adjuster attached that may have broken

Re: PD100 gearbox help!!

This problem has been noticed by my other half who uses it during the week, it's not happened to me yet. She's now lost confidence in the Fabia so I have it again.

It was generally a bit cooler yesterday when I finally got to inspect the car and I couldn't get the car to play up. I had no problems getting into reverse whatsoever. Now ... I know my missus can be a muppet sometimes ( ) but I don't think she's making this up.

I wonder if a combination of sitting in direct sunlight all day (temp guage said 43 degrees at one point) and her technique of pressing the clutch and selecting reverse at the same time caused the problem. Perhaps tolerances closed up in the extreme heat?

Dunno, I'm guessing cos it seems to be fine now. Just hope it's a one-off.

Thanks for all of your help.
