Pedal feel with 312 brakes

I've just ordered some 312 front brakes and I just need some reassurance from you guys that have already converted. The big question is:- Do you get more "feel" through the pedal and is it less spongy?.

The standard 288's stop quick enough, but I just need a harder pedal with more feel.

Your opinions would be very welcome

They have the same initial bite as the 288's but will stop more progressively.
Still bedding mine in, but twice I've nearly put my head thro' the windscreen!

And if you're in a hurry to stop, I'd imagine they wouldn't let you down.

I'm comparing standard 288 setup to 312 WITH ferodo DS2500 pads

The initial feel is the same as the standard 288 setup, with a tad more feeling maybe. Feels slightly more progressive and controllable. However, with the 288, you would press hard and then pressing any harder didn't result in braking harder, as if you'd reached the maximum braking power.

With 312 and DS2500 pads, the harder you press, the quicker the car will stop. Also, there's a lot less fading after enthiusiastic driving, but I guess that's more due to the pads than the increase in disc size.

I was quite impressed overall with the original brakes package on the car, until I had a remap. Then I thought the brakes were barely adequate on familiar roads, because of the extra speed and extra braking required. Having upgraded to 312mm and standard pads, my view is that the braking power exceeds what is probably necessary to stop the vehicle repeatedly from high speed. I never got fade before the remap, and now with the new brakes, I don't get fade with the remap. There is more "pedal", more control under heavy braking, and a much more progressive action to the whole setup. They are bedded in now, and apart from the rear of the car trying to overtake the front (which I quite like) they perform very well indeed.

They were a bit spongy at first, but now they have bedded in they are fine.

I think you would only find any disappointment if you were knocking out 250bhp + and drove everywhere like it was stolen.

The brake feel is pretty much the same to be honest...

Pootling around normally and you wouldn't know you have 312's, but when you brake a bit harsher, say in an emergency stop, or brisk driving, and the difference is obviously massive!

And when the pads are hot, then the brakes are a different animal all together

312mm's are such an improvement - much improved feel and progression as well as significant improvements in stopping power. With DS2500s you do notice further improvements when they have some heat going through them - they just get better, although these performance pads do squeal a bit with gentle braking. I must admit though, I quite like that - sounds more 'race car', no doubt everyone else thinks it sounds crap though!

Mine are just getting better all the time. I have go the odd squeal at crawling speed when lightly touching them but it may go with time.

Know how you feel, when mine are warmed up they squeal like a bitch, but at the same time they also brake like a bitch!

Just fitted mine at the weekend, still bedding them with the looks of them they can't have done more than a few miles when I got them and they've only done about 20 since so still really gentle on them.

The initial bite at the minute is really eager, the pedal does feel a 'spongy' (if that's the right word) but this is probably due to them not being bed in at all yet.

However I have aweful squeal. Not all the time but if i'm doing about 10 miles an hour and just ever so gentle touch the brake (so the pads are only slightly pressing on the disc but not really stopping the car) then it squeals for all mighty, apply a little more pressure suqeal goes away, brake at speed and no squeal.
I am hoping this goes away as times goes on cos I can't be arsed to remove them and regrease.
