Re: Pleasing mpg

This has been posted elsewhere on this site but would appreciate any comments please. I have a brand new fabia 1 1.2 petrol (60)

I have today been to Irvine nr Glasgow and back. I filled it to the brim with Shell fuel. I did 154 miles and have just refueled to the same level at the same garage same pump. It took 25.26 lires which works out at about 27mpg!. the majority of the journey there and back was by Motorway at a 58mph or slightly less or country roads at about 40mph. Even allowing for the vehicle having done only about 2800 mls I feel that this consumption figure is unacceptable.

I contacted the VCA about their consumption figures they claim that the
figures were supplied to them by Skoda. If this is the case then I am afraid
some misleading advertising is afoot here.

Re: Pleasing mpg

I read on another thread (mostly speaking about TDIs) that one guy got a better mpg when he drove in the higher revs (2000-3000) in a lower gear rather than changing down early and keeping it at about 1500 revs.

Do people think this may also be true for my 1.4MPI? I've worked out the mpg once using the traditional/more accurate method and only got 35mpg - I was hoping for a lot more (that was a weeks driving and a real mixture of around town, on slow motorways, clear motorways (60-70mph) and a-roads(50-60 mph)

The other post said something about the engine 'breathing' better in the slightly higher revs/lower gear combination.

Your thoughts would be most welcome!

Re: Pleasing mpg

Here's what I got on a recent run, 69.1mpg! ...my computer overestimates by about 8-10% but it's still decent

Re: Pleasing mpg

Divide litres by 4.54 to convert to gallons. My long term average c. 77000 miles 1.9 sdi Y reg 2001 is 55. 9. I regularly get just over 60 mpg on computer to Wales (Llynn Peninsula) and back, motorway much of way.

Re: Pleasing mpg

Got a calculated 59mpg over in France last year, over a 2hr run at around 70mph, mainly with cruise on. 2 people, plus a week's luggage.

That was on normal diesel, but with a double-shot of Millers.
