Police

I was talking to a guy who also has a Skoda vRS from where i live, but i pulled up behind him, and parked half way on the parking bay, and half way on the zebra crossing, i spoke to him for a few minutes before i could find a proper place to park, when police pulled up along side me, and said...
"Could you move your car or i'll give you 3 points".. etc
Is it possible to be given three points for parking or just a parking ticket?
I've never heard of anybody being issued with 3 points for being parked on a zig zag?

Halfway on the parking bay, and half on the zigzag, not really blocking anything to be honest, but.. is it possible to be given 3 points for that?

Not sure whether it would be endorsable or not TBH, but hey, why take the risk as ultimately you know it's wrong.

You sound like you are trying to defend your actions because they were "only a little bit wrong"

Do you expect to get a parking ticket for parking half on double yellow lines?

My laws a bit rusty these days as I haven't worked in the courts for 10 years , but yes - breach of Pedestrian Crossing Regulations of some type. 3 points and a PC30 endorsement.

I'm not trying to sound like anything mate, i was just wondering whether its a 3 pointer?

And i would expect to get a half price parking ticket, as i would of been only half parked on a zig zag

Re: Police

Yes , parking on the zig-zag lines is an endorsable offence.

That surprises a lot of people when they find that one out , usually just before they get handed the paperwork

Re: Police

No probs.
When I was doing my police training I don't think a single person knew it was a 3-pointer before we were told.

Been that way for over 30 years.
Back in 1974 I was riding my Triumph Bonneville home from college with a mate on a Norton Dominator. He broke down and we both pulled over, him onto the zig zag zone, me half on half off. Copper pulled over and booked us both, ended up with fines and an endorsement each.

I think the legislation hadn't been in for long and the zig zag lines were a relatively new feature, but like you we both expected a fine not the endorsement.

That said we thought at the time it was a bit OTT as we were both well into the kerb but it still obscures oncoming drivers sight line to see pedestrians entering the crossing.

Fair cop as they say.

Re: Police

Interestingly no points if you do this in Northern Ireland...

http://www.psni.police.uk/index/depa...fencecodes.htm

Addendum - or on the mainland either

http://www.insureuk.co.uk/class/cars/offence_codes.htm

Further addendum - internet research proves inconclusive - it seems there's been a consultation re decriminalising parking on zigzags but I can't find direct reference to it being abolished - however there are other references that don't list it such as http://www.speedcamerasinfo.co.uk/re...+PENALTIES.doc

The department for transport seem convinced it's an endorsable offence as well , as do Gateshead council

Re: Police

Zig zags are definitely endorsable....when I learned to drive I always remember my instructor telling me that you must never park on them, not like double yellows.
I was told that if someone was knocked down on the crossing while you were parked there then you could end up in prison...don't know if this is true or not.

SORRY just read DRJ's post, I stand corrected....still a personal gripe of mine though!

The offence 50.08.111 Stopping on an approach to a Pelican Crossing . has 3 points associated. What's the difference between that and "parking" withing the limits which doesn't seem to attract any?

Re: Police

I fell foul of this law in the late 80's

Pulled up at a cash till on a Sunday evening, no one about, traffic or pedestrians. Half of the car was on the zig zags for a crossing.

Jumped out of the car, cash till was out of order so got straight back in. As I was about to drive away a copper came running down the road and stopped me.

I had only been there for about 20 seconds!

While he read me the riot act a Police car pulled up behind me (on the zigzags) and another two coppers took great amusement in my predicament.

3 points and £24 fine ( that's the equivalent of a weeks wages nowadays youngsters )

That's the only points I've ever had on my licence
