Red face Rough Clutch

Hi,

I have a newbie style question,

I have just bought a Fabia 1.9 PDI estate with only 2300 miles on it. Should I be expecting some roughness through the clutch? ( ie, I can feel vibrations through the pedal when I depress it and the engine is running) The vibration is worse at the top end of the pedal stroke (just touching it) than when it is fully depressed and does not change if the car is in gear or in neutral. I can't tell if it is just transmitted vibration from the engine through the clutch or if the thrust bearing is causing it (unlikely I know but possible). I'm also getting a little bit of clutch shudder. I have just come from a six cyl petrol motor so sorry if I seem to be panicking (as one does with new cars)
Any views welcome before I embarass myself in front of the dealer.
Cheers

I wouldn't describe the clutch on my Fabia 1.9 TDI as rough, although I'm used to heavy clutches after owning a Scooby and a Disco. You could always pop down to a dealer and test drive another car with the same engine to compare if you're concerned?

Thanks Chris.Yep, I wondered about doing that- It's the only way I'll know for sure. Its funny- It's not really rough, just more sense of vibration than I would have expected given that the rest of the car seems pretty well screwed together.

I had a vibration through the clutch pedal on my old TDI. Almost as if the release bearing wasn't flush with the operating lever.
It never went away, I just got used to it. Dealer said it was a known fault on some TDIs, and there was no guaranteee that a replacement would be any better.

Cheers for the response- Seeing as I have only done 200 miles in the car since I bought it and it's still under warranty, I wonder if they would take a look at it. Think I'll give them a bell soon as they are owing me a tyre and a new key anyway!

Just me being a paranoid new diesel owner! Clutch checked out fine at the dealer (yes I do trust them) and they gave me a new tyre, key and touch up kit at no extra charge. I like this nearly new lark.
