Default SDI tune...

Hi, Does anyone know how to obtain more power from the 1.9 SDI engine? (chips, exhausts, air filters etc., plus what power gains would be expected, if any?
Thanks terry007

K&N or green filter may help a little but apart from that it's very expensive for little gain

The SDI can be remapped, i have done a couple but as said gains are much lower than turbo cars. You would be looking at about 8% increase

Not cost effectively - you'd need to re cam etc to open the valves longer to take advantage of the turbo - too exppensive when you can sell the car and buy the turbo'd one for very little difference.

If you're going to play with an engine, you should start with the best one available

As a general rule your correct however quite a few people who own a 1.4tdi for example enjoy the challenge of tuning the car & the performance from something which really shouldnt have that power.

That's a really good point, I never even considered that - I was thinking about the 'easiest' way to get the power, not necessarily the best or most enjoyable.

I can guess there's a really good sense of achievement doing that.

Or buy the best one available and then perform an "open engine transplant"

Surely nobody would be silly enough to undertake such a task

I heard an old wives tale that only people in the far south west attempted that kind of trickery

you can fit a powerbox The dragon one is good and cheap.
also an air filter.
as an alternative to the powerbox you could swap the injectors for highr flow ones.
it wouldnt be a good idea to do both you'd just make smoke.

rule of diesel tuning smoke =too much fuel.
so you add more air
