Shoudl I pay for my Skoda dealer to activate the anti-hijack feature?

Hi,
I have booked in my vRS to have the anti hi-jack feature enabled whilst it is in having the rattling rear headrest lookeed at. However, they quoted me £14.95 +VAT. Should this be free as it is offered as a free service at other garages such as BMW???

Cheers

Why should your dealer do it for free? It will cost them in terms of technician time etc. That said some dealers will do things like that for free but you shouldn't expect it.

Why not see if you can find a kind someone with VAG-COM to do it for you.

You could try asking other local dealers if they want the warranty work instead and would do it for free.

Otherwise, I would imagine when service time comes they are more likely to do it free as you are parting with your hard-earned cash for an oil change.

OTOH you could see if anyone near you has VAG COM and offer to buy them lunch at the next Skoda meet!

I wouldn't pay for it as it's a 5 minute job for someone with VAG-COM and I'd rather give beer tokens to a friendly Briskodian

Simpsons in Colne did it for me for free when I bought the car. Best Skoda dealer I've encountered. I would take the car back there for service, but it's just a bit far.

last service i had it was done for free. Don`t book it in especially, just ask them to do it at the next service. I didnt like it it really annoyed my passengers, but it is a good feature.

I had mine done free at Pilling in MK while I was getting something checked under warranty. Just asked and they said no problem. I wouldn't pay for it.

I am with VRStu on this one.

I wouldn't expect a Taxi driver to give me a free 5 minute lift down the road, so why expect a dealer with a similar investment to do the same thing?

That's a narrow minded attitude to have. The dealers invest a lot of time and money in training technicians and buying the equipment for them to use, so why should they do it for free.

I stand by my last comment, all well and good if you can get it free but you shouldn't expect it. On a smaller scale I have invested circa £240 in a VAG-COM cable and software, whilst I might do someone a favour and help them with it they shouldn't expect it.

I also notice that you've been a member since 2004 with over 1800 posts, had you thought about joining Freedom or do you expect everything free?

Nothing is free - I suspect the cost will be swallowed up in either the buying price of the car or in the service cost

But is it an option that should be enabled by default, or disabled?

Gosh arent we so amusing

my point was that as I had never owned a Skoda or VAG car before I was unaware of the anti-hijack feature and this was enabled by the dealer without me requesting it - presumably as they think it should be std operation, and obviously others dont - hence my comment of varying specs.

Please do not reply to genuine comments in such a childish way!!!

Locks all the doors at 12mph and unlocks them when you take the key out the ignition or pull an interior door handle.

It wasn;t on the options list when I ordered my furbie...

And the dealer told me that it can be set up, just to bring it in they'd do it there & then for no charge. Think it depends on the dealer.

Re: Shoudl I pay for my Skoda dealer to activate the anti-hijack feature?

Had my 2nd service at Prestons in Writtle, asked if they could activate the so-called 'anti-hijack' feature and he said..........................."of course sir, no problem at all".

Seems some are more accomodating than others, and on that basis NO, I would not pay.
