Question Should I remove my remap?

I'm thinking of trading in my Fabia vRS, which has been remapped to about 170 bhp by APS in Brackley. It's been a fantastic car and has given me no problems at all since I've had it from new and just done 80K in it, but I'd like something a bit bigger. Would it be better to remove the remap (and Briskoda stickers) before trading it in? I'm pretty sure that they'll think it's been thrashed (which it hasn't) if I turn up with a modified car. Any advice? Has anybody traded in a remapped car at a Skoda dealer?

Could anybody give me a ballpark figure for the trade-in value for a Furby vRS on a 54 plate with 80K, full service history, kept in mint condition.

Cheers!

Why waste it?

Let the new owner enjoy it, but let them know for the insurance

Re: Should I remove my remap?

Skoda do indeed sell remapped cars. I test drove one and the sales guy got quite excited over it too. The ride height was also significantly lower than the rest of the Fabia vRS's, so they have no problems selling modified cars. I'm pretty sure they added a few quid to the price as well.

Re: Should I remove my remap?

Perhaps go to a different dealer than you intend to finally deal with - see what they say about the remap. If it is to the negative then you could always remove the map and go to the dealer you 1st had in mind.

FWIW - as a buyer I'd prefer to know it had been remapped, decide then whether it had been thrashed or not, rather than discover later.

Re: Should I remove my remap?

i bought my VRS from the dealers as a 'standard' VRS, turns out it was fitted with a PD160 intake green cotton panel filter and had a switchable remap to 180bhp from star performance, result!

no the dealer never knew anything was on the car..

he got it in 2 days previous and hadnt had a look at it fully, he said it didnt have c/c or heated seats, just a plain old VRS, i turned up it had heated seats and c/c - mint!! and i had already put a deposit on it over the phone so he was quite gutted i think.

I knew it had all the stuff on it though as it was listed on Ebay the week previously but never sold then the owner traded it in.

So i got a

2004 04 black VRS
Full skoda hisory 37k miles
years mot
years tax
2 new tires
years warranty

extras of c/c, heated seats, pd160, green filter and switchable remap for £7,300 from a dealer, good deal

Re: Should I remove my remap?

I tried with great difficulty to sell my octy vRS with remap. The local skoda dealer did not want to know, because he would be unable to sell it with a warranty as he could not get anyone to cover it.

The remap will add nothing to any trade in price, same with other mods. However it may help the dealer add to the price when sold, assuming you can find a dealer to take it.

Traded mine in last year for a MKII Vrs, took all mods off car, Eibachs, PD160 intake, Green Filter etc etc, but left the map on.........but the Furby will be out of warranty by now...

Re: Should I remove my remap?

Of course you should remove the map if you sell it - nobody in their right mind would buy a remapped car second hand*!

As a rule of thumb you can knock at least 100% the cost of the mod off the cars book value to see what a brilliant addition mods are in selling a used car. Modified = Thrashed in the buyers mind. Get it flashed back to standard & deny all knowledge

*Awaits flaming from people who did

Fully agree - take it off and throw the receipt of it in the bin and the buyer will be none the wiser. Leave i on and the potential private buyer market will be significantly reduced as modified cars are very niche and mainstream will just look at a different unthrashed example as there are plenty about so why buy one that may have issues in the future & in your ownership. If its running fine now thats no indication of how it might be down the line.

Re: Should I remove my remap?

Personally when i bought my VRS i wanted a map by a reputable company already on the car! so all depends on the buyer in my opinion.

Re: Should I remove my remap?

vRS's are ten a penny at the Auctions many were on PCP's/fleet cars and now coming to and end they dump them into Auctions.

If you see a dealer selling a car sticker price £6000 they will have bought it for £4000 maybe less.

They are very cheap as trade, even with fsh and privately owned.
