Question Three beeeps off Fabia this morning...???

I fitted the new cotton filter, air intake and strut brace last night - all went well, went on a test run - all good

Then....

This morning, turned the key halfway for the glow plugs to heat up and it went beeeep, beeeep, beeeep - three times like that!

It was the same sort of beeeep you get when the temperature drops below 4C, but istead of one beep it was three!! How odd! I checked the temperature reading and it was at 4.5C so dont think it was caused by that.

There were no unusual lights on the dash, I switched off and on again - no beeeps this time.

It was almost like a POST code off a computer when you switch on and the memorys duff.

Anyway, I started up, drove 35 miles to work - no problems...well no obvious problems anyway.

Has anyone else had these beeps, do they mean something, and could it be related to the work I did last night???

I'm slightly worried by it, but not a lot. Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

I've had that as well...it is worrying, as it has to do with the ESP...you should get it checked.

Thanks, I will do! Have you had this checked out at the dealer, and is it sorted now?

Thing is, I dont have ESP ...unless they fitted it by mistake?

I've got the standard ASR...It could be to do with this I suppose?

I've just seen this older thread on Warning Alarms which exactly describes my problem.

ESP should be fitted as standard. U have a vRS right? ESP is not ASR, ASR is anti-skid system, ESP is electronic stability program. Sometimes it glitches. No particular reason, ECU based problem. I haven't gotten mine checked yet though.

In the UK, ESP is a 400 UKP cost option so not many of the cars have it ASR is standard on all the 100bhp and above Fabias....

Yeah, its just ASR I have. Didnt know ESP come as standard in some countries.

So was it confirmed that the ESP (or ASR) will beep three times when you turn the key if there is a fault?

Would this show up on the diagnostic fault logs on the car if I took it to the dealer? Its not happening now, but imagine it could come back if there was a fault.

It seems a strange way to alert the driver of a fault, especially as theres nothing in the manual about it and no warning lights when it ocurrs.

...Just phoned the dealer about my three beeps when I started the engine.

They have never heard of this happening before, and said if there were no warning lights on the dash then it wouldn't log anything in the diagnostics so not much point in taking it in to be checked.

What now then..?

Bit of a mystery really, if anyones got any other ideas or seen / heard this before I'd love to know about it.

In the mean time I'll just keep an ear out for it happening again.

Cheers

Yes it does beep three times if there's a fault dude. It's happened to me a couple of times but its nothing serious. It will have something to do with the ECU in ur car. Usually if u switch the car off if that happens and start it again, one of the lights will disappear...do it again and its all gone Very weird, but i havent had time to g et mine checked. But DEFINITELY if there is a problem with the ECU, the car beeps three times upon ignition. Get it checked. It's an ECU problem.

That doesnt sound healthy, but thanks a lot for letting me know! It does add up seeing as when I was out 'test driving' last night, ABS would have been activated a few times as I was putting the car through its paces.

When I spoke to the dealer, they put someone from the workshop on the phone, but they hadn't heard of it happening before and didn't think it would be a problem.

So I should really get back to them and ask them to check the bulletins?

..I take it by 'bulletins' you mean details of tech notes, recalls, etc sent to the dealers by Skoda? Just want to be sure they know what I'm talking about and they will have access to these.

Cheers

Yeah we have a internet site called desktop with all the current info on it, I noticed that one the other day as now im the workshop controller its up to me to read them and print them off for the workshop folder.

The car is in no way dangerous to drive so dont worry, its small software glitch.

I had this same problem on my old 16v. Every time I took it to the dealer, they didn't have a clue as it apparently didn't store anything in the memory. I gave up in the end. Actually prefered driving it with no ABS or ASR.

I randomly get 3 beeps when I actually start the engine. Is this the same problem or are you referring to a beep when you go to the middle point before firing up the engine.

Regards

Hmmm, yeah it sounds the same, but it depends how quick you turn the key I suppose. Do you turn it the full way all at once or stop halfway?

The beeps I got this morning were when I turned the ignition key halfway to allow the glow plugs to warm up (waiting for the little orange light to go off), when I got to this mid-point it did a long beeep....which made me think it was the ice warning sound, but then it paused and beeeeeeped again, then again. Once it started this beeping lark, I didnt start the engine, and put the ignition back to the off position. Started again, but no beeps the next time I turned the key.

I've been trying to make it happen again, but not had it again yet.

Yeah that happens Very wierd. Half-way thru the ignition it beeps. AND the ESP and ASR and ABS lights on my car switch on (because if there is something wrong with the ASR then the ABS doesn't work [Skoda standard]). But like I said earlier, switch the car on and off about three times and the lights and beeps disappear. Real tempermental bitches our cars are.

No mine is only ever when the actual engine starts. I wait for all lights to go out before moving from mid point on ignition.

Have tried with seat belt buckled and handbrake off as I thought that might be the cause but no affect.

On Audi A3's 3 beeps when started is usually fault in alarm back-up siren - signal that onboard battery is knackered - although the beeps in this case come from the n/s/r as that's where the siren is located on the A3
