Using Longlife oil in a Fabia vRS

Hi all,

Just a thought here, but I'm getting my Fabia serviced this Saturday at a VW dealer (cos of best mates staff rates!) and was thinking about this idea:

Is the VW 'Longlife' PD oil *better* for the engine than the 'normal' PD oil??
Obviously, the Fabia is on fixed servicing every 10,000 miles, but as mine is remapped, I think it would be a good idea to either change the oil a bit early, or perhaps put the longlife oil in it but then change it every 10k as normal.

Surely longlife oil is better at dealing with the soot particles etc than the normal oil?

The only reason I'm considering this is because I get it at staff rates as I know it's expensive stuff!!

Would appreciate peoples thoughts on this...

Thanks,

Joe

Re: Using Longlife oil in a Fabia vRS

On it's first service the garage put the wrong oil in (normal stuff) but after I questioned whether they had put the correct oil in as requested they realised they hadn't, so changed it. So before the next service I told them to be extra careful and mentioned their previous mistake. This time they put in the long life (the type my Octavia diesel has) and tried to charge more because it is more expensive. Of course I refused and contacted Skoda. After checking they said it was fine and actually better.

I allways serviced my Fabia vRS with longlife oil as I could get it at cost to me, wont do any harm.

Thanks Prasg and Lummox,
Thats what I thought about it not doing any harm as it goes in other vehicles with the same engine but on longlife servicing.
Do you think it is actually 'worth it' though, given the extra expense of the longlife oil, but bearing in mind I have a custom remap and so the oil probably has a harder time of things?

Fully synth oil is more resistant to the breakdown of its polymers than semi or mineral. As a result it'll be in better nick when replaced at 10k and will provide optimum protection for more of its life. Fully synth is also better at removing gunk and soot deposits than semi etc hence is not recommended on high mileage engines unless you're already using it as you're likely to spring leaks and perhaps lose a bit of compression.

No need to in the Fabia vRS case (you probably know), so stop worrying

10k oil change (doing mine at c9k).

On the subject of oil, Halfords have a sale on (or at least did last week) and are selling their fully synthetic 5W/40 505.01 spec oil as buy one, get one free. So 10 litres for £31.99
