Question VRS purchase and insurance

Hey guys,
I have been browsing these forums for the last few months and have decided to take the plunge and get me a vrs, hopefully this weekend. At my local dealers, wings, they have an 05 black, cruise, with 3500 on the clock for £12250. Now i know this is way too much, looking at autofinders they have 05 plates in for £10845 and new ones for £11695. Broadspeed are looking at £11130 + 280 for black paint. I have no experience of skoda dealers part from a test drive and wondered what sort of discounts they give off motors including buying a brand new vrs. I saw a post on here saying expect to get around 8% off which seems good. Does any one know what the current waiting time for black vrs's with no options are?

Also comes the point of insurance, i have been recently convicted of failing to stop and given 5 points. So far the best quote i have managed is ensleigh (spelling) for 1047 fully comp, 22 with 1 yr no claims. Are they any specialist insurance companies that you know of who might give a smaller premium. Before the conviction was looking at ~500 for the same as above.

Thanks to those who spare time to answer my questions. Keep up the good work, very informative forums!

Cheers
Richard

Remember that if you've got a trade in you wont get as big a discount as internet prices.

I'm currently negotiating to buy one for sept delivery and they're giving us £1400 for the missus' Mazda which is £400 over top book (and it ain't a top book motor!). Realistically I reckon they'll maybe get £500 for it at auction, so in reallity they're taking £900 off the vRS (7% ish). I don't think they can come down much on that given that they'll lose on the trade-in.

Where we're trying to make up the saving is by negotiating good finance rates with the dealer and maybe trying to get freebies such as a service etc. Don't know if it'll work but I'll find out on Thursday when I go back to see him!

Im selling mine, 04 plate, 37K on the clock, mint condition, need a quick sale, offers of around 9,500. Its a deisel so i wouldnt worry too much about mileage, just think of it this way, it has been run in for you!

Feel free to make an offer if you are interested, I live in south london, just moved there, hence the sale.

Thant £2000 over all than the cheapest one purchaced and only 6 months difference in price, and if you sell yours youll also get abot an extra £900 to play with!

Alex

Im 23 1 year no claims, and the best quote i could bet was £1,400, therefore your insurance will be paid in the difference in price...

Should drop £100 in a month with my 1 no claims.

Hey,
I got my dealer to match the price of £10,995 i found online and went for cruise and black paint taking it to £11,400.. Dealer said it would be 2 weeks for delivery even with options and amazingly it was .. It arrived last week but i still havn't had time to collect it .. If i'd bought online would have waited much longer and paid no less

Insurance wise i'm 27 with 7 years ncb, no accidents but have had 17 points including a cd30 since november 2000 and am paying £700.. Thing with insurance is to shop around till you can't bear to make anymore calls even if you might save £££'s

If your dealer says he can't match the starting price of £10,995 go elsewhere

Dealers vary - mine wouldn't budge on list price and valued the trade-in at £2,500 less than Glasses Guide Trade...

I've just had a quote for insurance renewal for my bog standard Fabia vRS of £450. I'm 58, retired, clean licence, a million years NCD, just wife as named driver, (details ditto), live in a low crime area and I think they're taking the michael. Suggestions ?

I found that getting prices online and using them to harass the dealers worked - I got £1600 off the list price before I started adding options and ruining all my good work

41 low crime area, 22 years NCD 18000 mile pa £262.50 from Direct Line. The service level is excellent and as I have been with them for a long time, they seem to give lower renewal premiums than I can get with their online quote system (which was used to generate the quoted figure here).

Same here , if you have been with DL for more than about 6 years you are probably on one of their older schemes that has no mileage limit and costs less than their new ones

Direct Line isn't competative if your record is less than clean.

After 6 points and a claim accident resulting in a (probably justified) 70% hike in renewal quote (despite protected NCB). I switched to Highway - as well as buying the relatively-cheap-to-insure vRS...

My profile is similar to yours, and I got quoted £404 from Chris Knott, so it may be worth giving them a ring.

My broker just quoted me £538.00 fully comp, full no claims, driveway overnight no points/modifications etc

I too rang Chris Knott, disclosed my modifications, remap etc, and my 9 points that my broker isn't aware of, and it's £500.00.
Worth giving them a call mate.

Thank you folks for Insurance info. Had a look online and got £278 from Lloyds TSB. Kinda weird as it's underwritten by Churchill who quoted me £450 for renewal. Should be an interesting telcon in the morning ! Direct Line online looks like £284.

Differing quotes from the same insurer are very common. When I insured my Subaru Impreza a Norwich Union quote from a broker was just over £500 compared to Norwich Union online at over £800 - and people try and suggest online quotations are cheaper!
