Warranty

Hi All

I have bought a 32,000 mile 54 plate Fabia Vrs What I want to know is it worth taking out a warranty for it??? I have got the price down to about £240 for a year, that covers just about the whole car if not the lot.

Is it worth it or is the car reliable enough to not bother.

All oppinions greatly appreciated.

Simon

Re: Warranty

If its the skoda warranty its as bout as much use as a chocolate fireguard,

Have a look at what the policy covers (im sure its the engine and turbo) but thats about it.

Covering the turbo is good though

Re: Warranty

Hi there,

I have a 54 plate Fabia vRS...

Since the warranty ran out the turbo has been replaced, cost me £1000.

That's all really, but the turbo can go at any time, just unfortunate really.

Appart from that, no other problems I can report.

Good reliable car really, any problems should have been sorted by now.

Good mileage, mine has 60k on it now.

Re: Warranty

Turbo's are the main problem, if remapped the clutches dont seem to like it either

So what you are saying £240 is a good gamble???

Why do turbos go so often on the VAG engines? My old 306 DT has done over 100,000 miles on it's original turbo.

Just weak turbo's

Some are better than others, the Garrett turbo is known to be stronger on the fabia than the kkk turbo. but the garrett is rare and only on the early models

But to reduce the chance of it popping remember to let the car warm up before giving it the beans and allow to 'cool down' too for the last couple of miles before you switch it off

To be honest, it's good to cover the turbo as I say mine was a grand to replace as it's cast as part of the exhaust mannifold, hence its expensive.

Some of the cars will do 100k on the original turbo. to be honest, I only really hear of the vrs turbo's going pop. I tended to follow the book on the way they should be treated and it died so now it just gets thrashed.

Skoda use KKK turbo's on the engins where vw use garret which are more reliable.

IT may be worth it if it covers the turbo just incase.

Trouble is, the VAG engines are used in millions of cars compared to say peugeot so it will be documented that more turbos die on them.

Don't forget, the dTurbo engine puts out only 2/3 the power from the same capacity, and the turbos used (manufactured by both KKK and Garrett as it goes!) were fixed-boost so the only moving parts were the wastegate and the rotor...

Re: Warranty

I think you need to look at in perspective. A lot of people post on here because they have an issue which may give some people a poor impression of reliability. It's a bit like going into a doctors waiting room and being surprised it's full of sick people.

Re: Warranty

Most likely the weaker kkk, garretts where only on the very early cars, have a look and if it has a blue name plate on it its a kkk and if it had garrett made into the metal of the turbo its a garrett

Will you stop worrying everyone about the quality of their turbos! This whole thread and others are just full of you going on about how bad they are!

The vast majority of them run fine. The ones that largely fail are the ones wound up to within an inch of their lives with crap generic remaps and then driven to destruction by their unsympathetic owners. There are a few exceptions to that but there always will be. I bet the failure rate is less than 5%.

People post on here with their issues because it's a place they will find advice and relevent information. It's not always the best thing to be confronted with the voice of doom!

Im worrying everyone because im worried lol , i was speaking to a skoda tech and he said he gets fabia's in all the time with blown turbo's, on a weekly basis, skoda has a shortage of them at the minute, upto a 2 week delay, they cant get them quick enough.

Re: Warranty

I'm a bit concerned about the scaremongering too (not just jasc1988, I don't think), so I've set up a straw poll. Highly unscientific, but it might prove a point.

In the meantime,

CHEER UP, IT MIGHT NEVER HAPPEN!!!
