Weird heater problem!

I bought my VRS about two weeks ago now, and have found a very weird problem with the heater blower - it seems to be reversed! Positioning the dial straight up (pointing to the Front Demister position) and you find your feet getting warm. Pointing it straight down at the feet blowers clears the windscreen in no time!

The same is true of the others - right to left is mirrored as well as up and down!

Has someone simply taken off the dial and put it back on the wrong way? If so I'll do the same (tried in a traffic jam, but couldn't get enough grip on it. Otherwise how easy is it to take it apart, rotate the gizmo that the dial is attached to and put it all back together again!?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Re: Weird heater problem!

Hi mate, sounds like you need to plug it into vagcom and reset the heater flaps!

Re: Weird heater problem!

If you are still under warranty take it back and have it sorted.

The motors can sometimes be reset but invariably it's the motors which will need replacing.

Re: Weird heater problem!

I thought the direction control was cable, not motors?

Re: Weird heater problem!

err, what has that got to do with direction control?

SwimmerBoy, I've just looked on elsawin, direction flap is connected by a flexible drive shaft to a gear and lever system on the side of the heater. The kn0b doesn't appear to come off on it's own. It looks like you have to carefully remove the control unit as one piece by undoing the 2 screws underneath, gently unclipping the trim cover and the pull it towards you. It then says to disconnect electrical plugs and the flexible driveshaft. perhaps it can be reconnected half a turn round??
If you have a warranty, I'd take it back.

Re: Weird heater problem!

The flaps move and control the direction of airflow.

Think this sounds like the best plan. Unfortunately it's an '04' model, and was bought privately so there's no warranty. It's more of a pain than an issue at the moment, you've just got to point it away from the direction you want - bit of a nightmare first thing in the morning!

I'll take it to bits this weekend at some point and let you know how I get on. Thanks again!
