What gearbox oil and diff should I use

I want to change the gearbox oil on my fabia vrs 2004.
I also want to change the diif oil on the car . The car has done 36,000 miles

Can any one advise me on what oil or oils to use and what / how easy it is to to??

Would you only recommend I use dealer only oils for this.

I await your replies

thanks

Re: What gearbox oil and diff should I use

It is just gearbox oil to change on the Fabia, as everything is inside the gearbox.

I would choose 2.2 litres of Silkolene Silktran SYN 5 to replace the original factory fill. You can get it from Opie Oils who are a site partner on here or go here Opie Oils

The capacity of the gearbox is about 2.2 litres but you will have to buy three bottles holding one litre of the Silkolene stuff. It is also fully synthetic oil and should make the box shift better.

Changing the oil might not be too difficult if you have the size M16 torx tool that allows you to open the gearbox filler plug.

Personally i wouldnt use fully synthetic oil in a VW box, causes nothing but ball ache in the shifting dept.

i read good things about the Castrol oil , what do you recommend Ross , normal VAG oil , or just a none synthetic 75w90 oil , i can get the Ford 75w90 oil from work for naff all , maybe i should of just used that instead of wasting me money on the Castrol oil

Dealer recommended I'd say.

What's the recommended interval for changing the tranny fluid?
Nothing's mentioned in the service book so I imagine it's a guess?

there is no set schedule for the oil change , i just changed it as a precaution after some abuse at track days and also before i went to the Ring and Spa in May
