I like the way it responds when you give it a little push to overtake someone. Mine can be noisy at times depending on road surface though. As for mpg, I'm not obsessed with it but when I have checked, I usually get 60+ on the motorway. I've just done a trip down to Cornwall via Bristol with a fully loaded car inside and also three surfboards on the roof and got about 46mpg.

I'll second that 2 X 400mile A68,A1(M) & A14. Trips in the space of seven days no aches or pains here too. Only one stop in each direction, And the best bit only used a half tank in each direction.

The vRS is the comfiest car I've ever driven on a motorway

I recently did two 385 mile trips in a week (Edinburgh to Norfolk and back) with 2 brief stops each way. Usually long journeys give me back / neck discomfort, but I had no problems at all. And the fuel economy on m-way journeys is very impressive too

Just had brief stint of 30 motorway miles each way today - my wife and I picking up my daughter from Uni.
You would not believe the amount of stuff she had - despite having warned her numerous times.
There must have been 1 cu ft of space left (honestly) .
The Fabby handled it like a trooper - still tons of guts on the motorway and the ride quality was, if anything, a touch better

The missus has a 306 HDi (poverty L spec though) and the seats in that are awful compared to mine in the vRS. Way too soft with no support in any direction. You end up with a sore back after motorway runs.

The vRS seats to me are extremely comfortable for long journeys but you have to get the position right. They need to be pretty upright - the slight lack of lumbar support means if you're laid back they can get a bit uncomfortable after a while.

I found though that fitting leather does reduce the way the seats 'grip' you to a degree. Smoother material combined with more padding (meaning you sit on them rather than in them) reduces lateral support when cornering etc.
Still, they do look nice and are way more practical than the stupid standard white ones.

Aside from that, the torque of the PD130 combined with a nice 6 speeder and a stable ride at m'way speeds makes the vRS a pleasant and economical cruiser. Your choice of tyres is pretty crucial with regards to road noise and tramlining though. A search should reveal many opinions on this topic.

Great car for motorways - engage cruise and enjoy good economy, good comfort, but not that quiet (maybe my tyres).

Ours was pretty noisy on factory fit Continentals.
Now on Hankook Ventus and much quieter

We packed our fabia up to the hilt as well when we went for a holiday in Wales, it's surprising what you can fit in it really we had 2 kids in the back, and 2 bikes on the roof and it still pulled like a train even up some rather steep hills. My mate in his Astra couldn't say the same though.

The vRS is an excellent motorway car. Anyone who tells you it's noisy either:

a) Had a Rolls-Royce as their last car.
b) is travelling waaaaaaaaaaaay too fast.

Mine is an oasis of tranquillity after my last car (Astra 2.0 diesel).

IMHO the seats are very comfortable as well. Far more comfortable than my boss's Range Rover sport which tried to cripple me on the way back from Essex a couple of months ago. SWMBO has been heard to complain that the driver's seat is the only comfortable seat in the car, but since that's where I sit I don't see it as a problem!

I wouldn't say the engine is noisy, but the road noise is certainly a lot louder then my Octy vRS was by a long shot.
