| What was your reason for re-mapping your Fabia? Having spent some time reading older postings on these forums I have read more than anything about people re-mapping their cars. Now I have had my vRS for a few weeks I noted that it is very easy to drive, and easily surges past other motors (without going at crazy speeds). There is no visible smoke and it is good on fuel. Hills are a breeze and cruising is smooth. It deserves all the accolades it has received in the past .However I am wondering why it needs to be re-mapped by so many users? What is wrong with the car that makes a re-map necessary? What was the car not doing for you that made you want a change? It may be that a re-map may help me, but I cannot see what is wrong yet. Cheers, Ian |

| Re: What was your reason for re-mapping your Fabia? For me mate, I bought the car standard and after confirming with the dealer our vrs has had a mild map by the last owner, not sure of her reason why it was remapped but it saved me some cash as thats one of the things I wanted to do the vRS. For me it would have been more power for a remap. If it was actually me I would have stuck in a tuning box

| Re: What was your reason for re-mapping your Fabia? A tuning box (as just mentioned) increases the amount of fuel injected per stroke by a certain amount, as well as maintaining the increased fuelling levels until much higher in the rev range, thus making it accelerate a bit faster, but also maintain this acceleration beyond the 3500-ish rpm point where it drops off on a standard car. A remap also increases the turbo boost so that there's even more of an increase...

| Re: What was your reason for re-mapping your Fabia? To those who fitted a box or had a re-map, was this mainly for track days or for the road? If for the road, did it help with hills even more or something different like pulling away from rest? Is there more smoke? Cheers, Ian |

| Briskodian | Re: What was your reason for re-mapping your Fabia? Ok Ok heres my Proper answer. Many People get bored and like to "tinker". Its just one more thing we can customise on our cars. Side effects are as follows, but these may differ according to driving style. Increase Mpg Increased smile factor More Relaxed car to drive when driven steady more in gear shove for safer over taking More smoke (useful in despatching tailgating idiots) Some people just want to simply go faster, useful for traffic light grand prix's. Another reason is the monkey see monkey do factor....... I myself am a victim to this phenomon. Monkey see big hybrid turbo..... monkey has big hybrid turbo......... monkeys engine goes pop ![]()

| Re: What was your reason for re-mapping your Fabia? I have a PD160 trumpet assembly on order - I don't like that original restrictive pipe, but I know it will not offer any more performance - more MPG though hopefully. It would be nice to have more 'go', but I am worried about the smoke. I see those modded Subaru's pumping out smog and howling along, but I feel the smoke does not make for a pleasant experience for the other road users - it may give Skoda a bad name if all they see is thick smoke... | Briskodian | Re: What was your reason for re-mapping your Fabia? But how else will others know that it's been mapped if they don't get to see the smoke? Personally I can't wait for the time when I'll be able to get mine done. Just waiting for the warranty to run out first. As for the reason - because I can. Tinkering is very much a reason for doing this. The fact that VRS' can be fiddled around with so readily was a factor in my purchase.

| Re: What was your reason for re-mapping your Fabia? Living in a country where the smallest cars are usually 1.8 petrols, I wanted more power. In fact if I'm honest, I just wanted to make it slightly mental, and I think I succeeded..... Bas

Why did you buy a Fabia vRS over a normal Fabia PD100 elegance for example? I mean, for the same/less money you can get a better spec'd car and more mpg. I think the most common reason for getting a remap is because - we can! Mpg is only marginally changed (for better or worse) and that extra 30-40bhp is always good fun. I bought my car with a switchable map (I can turn it on or off in a few minutes). I hate driving the car as standard, it feels broken ![]() Maybe you should just try driving a non standard fabia ![]() | |

| Re: What was your reason for re-mapping your Fabia? I don't think the fabia is even capable of putting down the original 130 horses to the road (in 1st and 2nd), so what do the tyres do, exactly, with the extra 30-40?

Mine is getting remapped next month (Jabba custom job) as after 1.5 years ownership I'm bored with the standard power, plus I have trouble despatching the average Mondeo these days as they're all running similar power. 130bhp simply doesn't cut it any more. I know I'll be able to put the extra power down simply because I know how to drive it. It's no petrol so traffic light grand prix are pointless - 1st and 2nd just rev out too quick.

| Re: What was your reason for re-mapping your Fabia? I would have to agree with that! Always makes me laugh when they tailgate you, then into boost then back off. I personally got mine because there was a group buy on a local site and i thought why not. Got it nice and cheap! Alot more go. Nice to cruise, nice to cruise past cars on motorway effortlessly. Also very good when you give "high performance" petrol cars a fright. Then they dont believe its a diesel. (Ohh the boy racer i am! )Over time i also want to make the motor a bit quicker. Just got a passion for more speed. And thats where to start, with a re-map! |

then you have problems Wheels spins in 1st 2nd AND 3rd if your mash the go throttle. You have to learn to feed the power in, and make use of the extra top end breathing

Been in many cars where the amount of power they've got is questionable in terms of excess - a Supra twin turbo for example, now that was insane. You couldn't boot it in 1st or 2nd cos the back end would just step wide but good god that thing was fast. It doesn't take much to overwhelm grip, but that's no reason not to have more power.

| Re: What was your reason for re-mapping your Fabia? It seemed to offer a lot of extra go for not much cash. I found the standard mapping to be "odd" around 3k rpm. I felt there was a bit of a hole there. I wanted an extended power band so it felt more "right" holding on to 3.5K, 4K RPM in 2/3/4 gear. Everyone else seemed to having so much remapped fun and I felt left out. ![]() J.

| Re: What was your reason for re-mapping your Fabia? My remapped Fabia didnt smoke much, no more than standard anyway but i think the pd160 intake and a green cotton air panel helped alot (cleaned it every 2-3k) The main reason i went for it was for abit more power , got abit bored after a few months so i got a dragon box then got bored with that so got a remap. I would recommend a remap or dragon box just to see the look on peoples faces when your keepin up with cars you shouldnt bePaul |
