Re: Whats the alternative to...

I thought all maps left some kind of code deep within the ECU.

GIAC resets the counter each time it is loaded and unloaded via the flash loader unit.

Re: Whats the alternative to...

Are you thinking of the Revo free trial period map? You can get a try before you buy map which reverts back to standard after a certain length of time. Except it doesn't! It locks the ECU or puts the standard map back in a different way (i think!). There have been some people on here who have been unable to get their car remapped by a different tuner if they have used this free trial Revo map without getting Revo to unlock it first.

Someone please correct me I have got this wrong!

Mark

Correct but you don't always need revo to unlock it, there are people out there who can remove your ecu and whip the chip off the board and wipe it on a bench set up then reflash the standard skoda map back on, as you say revo dealers can re flash back to standard as well as I think they are meant to keep a copy of your original code.

Re: Whats the alternative to...

Can't get a Revo trial on a PD engine. So no need to worry

But, yes it would revert back to Revo's 'standard' map not the map you had before hand.

Youngsyd, I'm not even sure what your question is But as said most tuner will keep a copy of copy of your current map on file so it could be flashed back at a later date. HTH

Re: Whats the alternative to...

The general question was does a REVO remap leave a trace on the ECU once taken off?

Does it not change the flash counter?

Good point, it probably does unless it's done on bench and the chip is completly wiped and a fresh copy of the standard map is put on. Which in theory wipes all data stored on the chip including the flash counter (this is assuming the flash counter is held on the same chip and not in the convience module or somewhere else).

Again I could be wrong.

All I can confirm is that it's the best 300 ish quid I've ever spent!

People say how fun it is to drive a vRS but not as fun as having a remapped vRS!
