Where's the filter??

Maybe a daft question but where exactly is the Vrs oil filter? Is it a case of 'simply' removing the sump guard and hey presto there it is or is it a bit more complex than that?

Re: Where's the filter??

you'll need a big socket to undo the cap , the paper element will just lift out when cap removed

The oil filter is in the same position on the vRS. Thinking of changing the oil and filter?

Re: Where's the filter??

This reminds me of when I changed the air filter on SWIMBO's Polo 1.4 TDiPD...and after 1 hour and much cursing I it found behind the offside fog light
Not exactly where I expected it to be really.

Re: Where's the filter??

undo the cap and lift the old filter out before you drain the oil , that way you should get most of the old oil out of the engine

Is the oil filter definately above the level of the oil in the engine, then? Don't want oil spilling everywhere!

Re: Where's the filter??

Miles above it.

You should remove the filter first as it drops another 1/4 litre of old oil baxck down into the sump. If you do that after draining the oil it sits in the sump.

Re: Where's the filter??

Just make sure that you don't overtighten the cap when you fit the new filter.

There's a torque setting that needs to be followed otherwise you end up with a broken o-ring seal and an engine bay, sump tray and chassis covered in oil (just like I did 5 days into owning my car!).

That's the good news , the bad news is that you still have to crawl around under the car in order to remove the lower engine cover to reveal the sump plug If you're a Plumber, you'll be used to crawling about in dark, filthy confined spaces
