Thumbs up This is why I like diesels, especially mine

A journey in "rush hour" of THIS many miles

Which took me, due to rush hour, THIS long to do

At an average speed of THIS mph.

And after putting in £40 of diesel, 200 miles ago, it says I have THIS left to go

But she returned THIS mpg for the journey. Not the usual I should add.

Re: This is why I like diesels, especially mine

Doing well mate

I usually get quite a poor MPG in rush hour, 30-35 typically. Avr speed is usually about 10 though! You must have a quieter rush-hour down there

Re: This is why I like diesels, especially mine

My figures are somewhat swayed by my propane injection, but it doesn't throw in much propane when on regular low-boost jaunts like on my commute. But it would still have read about 65mpg even on diesel alone. It's just thanks to the hybrid turbo, some good grunt, and good mapping.

My commute is fairly quiet. I bypass one of the major blockages on my commute by nipping through a housing estate, but generally you're either stopped, doing 5mph, or once out the city limits of Exeter, doing about 40mph with other traffic. It's definitely not a stressy commute.

Have you ever done a brim to brim check of your mpg? Would be interested in the results.

I've not been anal enough to make a log each time I fill-up to be honest, but I might start soon. Would have to factor in the propane too though, which usually works out at 30 litres for 1000 miles @ about 43p a litre.

Heh. I've driven through Exeter rush hour to a regional office. Your traffic is weak.

Re: This is why I like diesels, especially mine

I have seen well over 100mpg before, but that was leaving my mates garage which is up on Dartmoor, so I barely touched the throttle for the first 6 miles or so of the journey!

You've got it set on instant mpg. Set it to the mpg with the 1) number in it (like in my 5th pic) Instant mpg is accurate, i.e when you're engine braking it reads ---- as you're doing infinite mpg, as the engine is being ran by the momentum of the car. Likewise on full throttle you're injecting shedloads of diesel, so it will be doing about 5mpg whilst accelerating that quick.

Re: This is why I like diesels, especially mine

My 18 mile commute is half single lane a-roadwhich is great for pottering ~60 and half dual-carriageway thrash which is atrocious! There I typically see 45-47, coming back it's 48-51.

Re: This is why I like diesels, especially mine

Well my fuel ecnomny is ****e. I get 40 if i am lucky.

This has got me thinking that over time a VT5 would eventually pay for itself.

ie atm i get 40mpg so for 25k miles it would cost at current fuel prices (110p/l) £3125.44

If i got a vt5 and then got an ecomney of 60mpg for the same 25k it would cost £2083.63

Thats a saving of over 1k which would pay for abit of the Vt5

Thats my argument to the girlfreind when she catchs me trying to spend more money on my car

Re: This is why I like diesels, especially mine

Sorry if i'm being dense but can someone give me a brief explaination about the propane. Is it added along with the diesel? Also is it used as a performance enhancer or for fuel economy (or both)? Judging by the power figures you quote I guess it must be for perfonmance

Cheers

Mark

Re: This is why I like diesels, especially mine

Is for performance but has a side benefit of boosting economy on normal driving. It gets mixed in with the air, which the turbo then pushes through the engine. It seems my engine is more efficient when it's not burning just air. A little bit of lpg with the air appears to give more of a catalyst effect, and it retards the diesel injection giving better economy.

I thought I was doing well getting mid 50s! Can't believe people are actually averaging in the 70s!

FYI, maybe u guys could try this to work out MPG:
Peugeot 306 owners club MPG Calculator

It's quite useful.

70s should be possible if you are at a constant speed for a while.
I was amazed to find my car had don 71mpg after being stuck at 40mph on my 30 mile drive home tonight.
It won't do that if there's no one in the way!!!
