Why is there leaves on the back of my glovebox?!

Hiya,
Removed the glovebox to put a usb wire through for the new car radio and seen this

I thought the air was filtered before it entered the car also what is that fabric is it a filter or just sound deadening?

Cheers

That'll be your pollen filter matey.
They only cost about £10 to replace iirc.
( I think, but don't quote me)

Don't worry - there's no need to replace your filter! It's downstream of the ventilation blower, so it's not the issue here...

What it is, is that leaves get around the edge of the scuttle panel, and into the body of the ventilation blower, where they get stuck as they can't pass through the vanes of the rotor. If you put the fan onto re-circulate (or just go into reverse), this opens a flap which is located just above the glovebox. Whilst the blower is running, the leaves stay put, but once you switch off, gravity takes over, and the leaves fall through the opening onto the soundproofing, as per your picture. The fact that leaves can get in at all is a bit poor IMHO - if they get stuck half-way through the rotor vanes, they can make a heck of a racket! I posted on here ages ago about how to remove them if that happens. People have said that removing the pollen filter and sticking your hand in will work if you've got small hands, but I'm not convinced by this, as (as already mentioned) the filter's downstream of the blower, so you won't be able to reach inside the blower body from that direction...

But I digress! It's not a problem with your pollen filter that's caused those leaves to be there. However, it doesn't hurt from time to time to whip the filter out, as small leaves DO get through the rotor vanes, and end up on the pollen filter where they obviously partially block it. Taking the filter out means the leaves fall out (which is good), but they fall out all over your footwell (which is bad!) Put newspaper down, or bring a dustbuster along!

HTH
