Check that the bonnet is closed properly. It is also possible that the bonnet switch has failed.

Re: wipers packed up.......any ideas?

It was the fuses, well done all.
Interestingly enough the front & rear wipers must be fused separately because the fronts packed up but the rear was still working.

Re: wipers packed up.......any ideas?

the fuse will blow quite quickly if the wipers are switched on when the screen is frozen, (or any other obstacles), I think on later cars it's been upped from 10 to 15 amps. I think it's listed as a control fuse, so it's not obvious that it's for the wipers

Re: wipers packed up.......any ideas?

The fuse blows because the washers freeze to prevent it in the future use a more concentrated screenwash mixture in the winter.
