Esp + Asr

I posted a topic last week asking you guys if I should pick Candy White or Dynamic Blue because my budget won't go far because I was wanting ESP, this would cost about the same as metallic paint. Over the weekend I was thinking of changing my mind about the met paint, until I watched this on youtube.

All Skoda in Sweden sold from Jan 2006 have ESP as standard and they says that it save a lot of lives. I love it even if I shout it of some times

ESP is brilliant, but for times when driving like a hooligan, it would be nice to completely disengage it...

Saying that, I'm confident I would have smashed my Passat up now on 2 occasions if I didn't have it!

Another bonus with the ESP pack on the new Fabia, is that it upgrades the rear brakes from drums to disks!

I was skeptical when I first got my car, I have no problems putting it sideways (on a track obviously) with ESP turned on and never considered it to cut in quickly enough. A couple of months ago I took a corner too quickly (again, on a track - obviously) and the ESP cut in before I knew what was happening and put me right back on track. I actually stopped afterwards as I was so shocked at what it had done! Had it not cut in I don't think I would have had a big accident in this instance due to large run-off areas but it certainly saved me from meeting the grass. It seems to be able to see the difference between a bit of sideways fun and an emergency situation. I will certainly always look for ESP when buying cars in the future and I hope that it soon becomes standard on all cars.

mine has ESP, and after a few 'tests' I did, I certainly wouldn't buy a car without ESP any more... ever. It does save lives... just ask the insurance companies....

So if I tell my Insurance company about the ESP the cost of my insurance will go down?.

No, they will probably increase the premium to cover the risk of having the ESP button stolen

bradfordfabia: well look at it his way, the insurance companies say that ESP would save about 50% of fatal road accidents...

this is reflected this way, my fabia was a £12k 130bhp hatch, insurance group 9 , cost me £460 to insure last year

my GP is a 130bhp £12k hatch (which has ESP fitted as standard) and it is group 6, and my insurance will be £330 at next renewal (august)

If it wasn't for ESP, I am certain I could have been killed in 2004 in my Fabia estate.

I wouldn't have a car without it now. I know how priceless it can be.

Gets my vote too - it is worth every penny for 'normal' driving, and even when driving a little stupid, it still does a nice job. If you wanna accelerate very hard, and you can't deal with right-foot control (as much) or you wanna drift it a bit, then it comes off though (rarely do this though as I can't afford the tyres THAT quickly

)

Glad it saved your bacon and I also love my ESP but do you have any idea how much it slows you down on a track?

Im sure ESP is very good... but it still doesnt get past the fact thats not a substitute for common sense and enviroment awareness.. i watched that video and it mentioned "driver error" more than a few times...

i know several people who have see ESP as a safety net if they overcook it a bit.. and because of that fact, they drive accordingly..

Agreed. In my case, I had a blowout on the A1 near the Grantham turning whilst overtaking a lorry in the rain. Was only doing 60-65mph at the most. The offside rear went band, I hit the barrier which then pushed me back towards the lorry I was overtaking.

I managed to brake and steer the car just behind teh lorry before landing up on the verge. It seemed to go on forever, but must have lasted a handful of seconds. The car was a write off, I was shaken up, BUT, I am 100 percent certain that without ESP, I would be dead or at the very least, seriously injured, purely because I was worried I was going to hot the lorry.

Considering the car was going all over the place, you would have thought the lorry driver would have stopped to help. Of course, he didn't.
