Default Battery dying?

Again, excuse my complete ignorance about cars, as with previous posts!

Fel is sometimes having to be highly or continuously revved to stop her sputtering out at start up, and occasionally when idling. I think, using my four year old's car knowledge, that this would be the battery. Correct?

On a side note, has anyone been able to do some part time vehicle repair courses anywhere? I've been trying to find them but they really seem thin on the ground. I've become really interested over the past few months, but noone I know is even slightly knowledgeable and don't know where to start.

Hi Mike
there is very little chance it is the battery, A battery is only to start the car, so if it starts on its own battery then its not that.

But there could be loads of things it could be, but you will have to give more info !

first we need to know what model the car is Petrol/diesel and how old,(good idea would be to put it in the discription at the side of the page), has it just started over night, or slowly got worse, have you been tinkering, last serviced, just to name a few.

Just a couple of things to check, Spark plugs, elecrical connections,(round the coil) check the plug leads, check any filters for blockages.

Hope that helps but there is so many diffrent things

Default Re: Battery dying?

A battery issue would result in the starter motor spinning slowly. I dont have a petrol felly, but alot of other people have had success with cleaning the 'throttle body' (where fuel and air are mixed before being fed into the engine). Do a forum search on 'stalling' or 'throttle bodies' and I'm sure you'll dig up some gold!!

I'm fairly handy with spanners, but started with a moped and have been servicing and repairing everything Ive had since I was 15 - if you can get on a course , great , but i learnt with lots of trial and error, mistakes aided soley by Haynes manuals and more recently car / bike forums.....

Thanks guys.

X reg 2000 1.3 Popular petrol; luxurious bottle green paint. No tinkering whatsoever, last serviced in October 07, though brakes done last month.

I really do need to get my *** in gear and get the Haynes manual.

Nor surprised I called the battery wrongly!
