| had this symptom on my partners car - been to the garage - associated problems are - lack of power - radio comes on at will & rear wiper goes bonkers -printed off your suggestions & showed to the garage - they confirm its the voltage regulator - but there is only 1 new one in the country and no alternators - unfortunately the battery has spilt acid due to the overcharging and there is damage to the paintwork cos of this - so beware if it happens to you... |

| Were they a skoda dealer? Someone must have some alternators, call some local motorfactors (look in the yellow pages). Or try Jorily skoda on ebay, he might be able to source the parts ![]() Battery acid can be nasty stuff, wash it off with a tonne of water. |

| ta for the advice - its my local garage and his supplier is out of parts... will have to test the ECU after the new parts are fitted incase its toasted |

| Hi You tend to find it is not the whole alternator , but the voltage regualtor It is overcharging You will get funny smells too The reg is only approx £25 and you can get them from Butts Of Bawtry Dont go ott on the full thing just to help getting a quick one Sarah |

| thnx for advice again - it was just the voltage regulatoi & the ECU is not fried - but the garage found the car (1.3 Mpi LXi 1999 T reg) has 90 ampere alternator fitted and its the original factory one... bit big dont you think... |
