Tuning my Skoda Felicia 1998

Good Day everyone,i was wondering if i could Tune my skoda, you know...add like a Supercharger/Turbocharger or a Superchip to the engine to make it more powerful...i was talking to this guy a couple hours ago and he told me you could get a supercharger for almost all engines from 1300cc and up...so...this is prodably going to be a challenge...

my skoda is 68bhp at the moment
going to get a K&M filter for it soon....then the tuning will hopefully begin.

Sincerely, DJOli, Iceland (in the capital city at the moment)

Re: Tuning my Skoda Felicia 1998

i was wondering through halfords yesterday when i came across this book -
Amazon.co.uk: Four-stroke Performance Tuning: A Practical Guide: Books: A.Graham Bell

i know pretty much nothing about how an engine works, but a friend of mine told me that something like that would be really usefull for my car (1.3 mpi felly) as he loves working on cars (especially mine.... dunno why) does anyone else own it and would recomend it?

Re: Tuning my Skoda Felicia 1998

yes, i've got all 4 of the books in that series and they are very very good, a bit technical in some places with lots of maths etc but well worth the money

Re: Tuning my Skoda Felicia 1998

can i really get my skoda over 80hp?

i'm really ready to spend a LOT of money on it....i mean...i'm gonna make it look "stock" you know...like a sleeper...then i'm going to smoke those who dare to race me!

going to try to get my Felicia to go faster than a Subaru...the 200hp ones...

-----------------
anyway,i've also posted this thread in an icelandic chat room or something like that
and i've gotten replies like "throw that car away, buy another one and tune it"
and "you can't possibly get a supercharger/turbocharger/superchip for a Skoda 1300cc engine.

i want to prove those ***holes they're wrong!.

Re: Tuning my Skoda Felicia 1998

you should be able to get 90+ easyish.

what engine is it? an "spi" or an "mpi"

try and induction kit, a sports cam, and a sports exhaust.

that lot should get you half way there.

Re: Tuning my Skoda Felicia 1998

thats a good start.
try Welcome to our tuning page for the engine parts.
as for induction kit, your gunna have to get creative.

and the exhaust you will have to get custom made.

Re: Tuning my Skoda Felicia 1998

Two not so simple ways to up the power are;
to up the compression ratio.
Or bore out the engine to give you more power.

Take the head to a professional machineing company and get them to skim the head down so your combustion chamber is smaller this will increase compression.
You don't have to go mad with it because skimming too much off the head (10+cc) could cause valves to hit piston which you dont want.

Others,
Sports cam's. sports exhaust custom, air filter, turbo or supercharger - not cheap but worth it, new easily mappable ECU.

Re: Tuning my Skoda Felicia 1998

you wont be able to skim that much off the head, 0.5mm is about maximum before you start running into problems

Re: Tuning my Skoda Felicia 1998

You certainly can tune the 1.3 engine.

I've a Felicia with a 1.4 MPi engine from a Fabia in it (very similar to the Felicia 1.3 engine, just a longer stroke).

It makes 116 bhp and 103lbft of torque (up from 68bhp and 74lbft as standard).

It's running on Suzuki bike throttle bodies, a Kent Cam, skimmed/ported head, and kit car inlet and exhaust manifolds.

Re: Tuning my Skoda Felicia 1998

I am indeed the person who posted on the Skoda owners' forum.

I had to make up one custom engine mount for the water pump end, because otherwise using the felicia water pump meant that the water pump and crank pulley were not aligned. I have heard that using a power steering/air con felicia water pump gets over this problem, but not verified it.

Picture of custom engine mount...

And...

The other thing I had to do was use the felicia flywheel, rather than the fabia flywheel (felicia has a deeper dish). This meant redrilling the felicia flywheel for the six hole mounting flange of the fabia crank. Again, it might be possible to use the whole fabia flywheel clutch assembly, but I had already spent a lot of money on a felicia helix clutch, and didn't want this wasted - it wouldn't fit on the fabia flywheel..

And just to prove it's genuine....

Re: Tuning my Skoda Felicia 1998

well mine has cost £1100 so far. and I've not got stuck into the engine yet!!!!

that was just to get the platform right and an exhaust made.

i'm budgeting about £1000 for the engine mods, but i have got something quite silly planned?????????????????
