| wouldnt start then odd behaviour ok so i have to be at the hospital at 8.45AM its 8.40AM and the car won't start. - took Mbike instead. ![]() anyway, I used jump leads from my mums car with its engine off to my felly. I dissabled the immobiliser then started to crank the motor over, It did'nt want to start. untill i pressed the throttle. (I dont normally have to do that) ![]() then it fired into life. and revved to 2000rpm as a tickover speed! ![]() eventually after removing the leads and waiting a few mins the revvs dropped bacxk to normal. So i used my spare key and locked the car whilst running the engine to charge the battery. every few seconds it would rev on its own to about 1750rpm and drop down to tickover again. ![]() Any ideas? - (ocassionally it dies just after starting, but it hasnt done that in ages.)

| Re: wouldnt start then odd behaviour Was the battery dead when you came to it this morning or did you flatten it trying to start the car? The occasional rise in revs sounds like what was called "hunting" on carburated motors & is a sign of a too rich tickover mixture. I'd suspect something like the idle switch or throttle valve sensor in the Throttle body... What's it like under load? Have you driven it round the block yet?

| Re: wouldnt start then odd behaviour My sisters did some strange things a while back - it had me puzzled. The temp sensor didn't work but I thought it was unrelated. Sometimes it wouldn't start without giving it some throttle - and then when it did start it sort of chugged! It would also idle at 2000 / 2500rpm. I took it to our garage, and he rigged it up to VAG COM, and the temp sensor thought the engine temp was 35 degrees when it was boiling hot! So when cold it thought it was about -50! We put in a new temperature sensor, problem solved. |

| Re: wouldnt start then odd behaviour thanks for the reply's yes the battery was dead when i got there, It only had enough power to unlock the central locking and alarm and imobiliser! - even then it did it slowly/ struggled. I took it out for a drive saturday and friday night, It seemed like normal and started fine. I did'nt use it on sunday. I came to use it tonight and there was no power again. The battery is a good make, and was only fitted last year. ![]() anyone think of any other problems? anyone is kent got VAG-COM? ![]()

| Re: wouldnt start then odd behaviour ocasionally the car would start then die straight away. people have indicated this could be a problem with the throttle body. what is it and where is it and what does it look like? I've been told it needs cleaning. any idea's on what could be causing the dead battery?

| Re: wouldnt start then odd behaviour take the plastic cover off the engine. the air intake is plummed right into the top of the throttle body, you'll know your there when you see the butterfly valve. |

| Re: wouldnt start then odd behaviour My fun did the same after i left my amp switched on all night, but righted itself after a good charge. if it continues playing up after getting battery sorted try disconecting both battery terminals and joining the cables together for 30 seconds, this ( if like a lot of vehicles)might reset the ecu If your batetry keeps going flat check that the boot light is going off when the boot is closed. it took me a couple of days of jump starts to find this on our lasses felly
