Default Honda Accord 2.2 CDTi Tourer

Just reading posts about the Civic - thought I would mention my Accord.
My trusty Audi A6 2.5TDI had over 200k on the clock so after reading all the blurbs treated myself to a new Accord Tourer - 1st new car for 27 years....... (Couldn't afford a new A6 - they were more or less giving A 100s away when I bought my 1st in 1985)
Got it and hated it - my own fault I should have tried one for a week or more. Kept it for 6 months and managed to trade it for my SuperB - restored my faith in motoring.

Accord good bits: Wonderful smooth engine (no oil consumption probs. as with some 2.2s) - really quiet; neat fold down rear seats, handy self opening tailgate; low rfl., excellent instruments, basic good quality build (but see below)

Bad bits: DIABOLICAL heating / worse demisting, no toys, cramped, plastics 'fizzing' all over the place at various revs, mediocre fuel consumption (best 41mpg), DEAFENING road noise, dripped on when opening doors in rain (no rain channel) mediocre ice

Interestingly, the boot mat I had bought as an extra exactly fits the Superb.

Interesting review that. A friend of the guy I work with has gone the other way round and moved from a VW Bora PD150 to the Accord Executive with the 2.2 CDTI engine. He's just bought his 2nd one now and absolutely loves them and says now that Honda do a decent diesel, he would never go back to VW....

Hardly seems fair to compare a Bora / Golf with an Accord!! I know they have improved the Accord a bit - put drip rails on, and the radio automatically gets louder as you go faster (presumably to drown the road noise.........)

Proper Accord comparison might be with a Superb Elegance 2.5TDI. If you do that, then there is no comparison! I did....................... and got a lot more car and some change.

Hope your mate has got a good warm car coat if we ever have another cold winter!

Erm... the newer VAG stuff isn't any better IMHO.

Besides.. I don't remember Honda denying DPF issues exist or doing nothing about them on their diesels if they happen.

Personally I would compare it against a 2.0TDI superb as the 2.5 V6 can't have that much life in it any more due to emissions regs..
