BRISKODA.net: 3m Carbon Wrap on the MX-5 gear lever surround and dash trim - BRISKODA.net

Last week I stripped out some parts from the MX-5 and took them with me to work and while I was in the hotel at night I carbon wrapped them.

I just used the hotel hairdryer, and a craft knife with a little patience. The results are pretty good imho. I sanded all the components with some P1600 wet and dry first to give the film something to key into to as the dash had been cleaned / dressed with silocone based cleaner in the past.

This week I am doing the vent surrounds and some other bit's and pieces.

Pics taken with the mobile phone so not to good, sorry.

You got my message then ;)

Looks good Tony
Cheers Carl, sound advice as well. I was going to sand it because of a few chips and dings in the surround. The MX5 parts suppliers want £80+ for these ..... The fag lighter was fun, but lot's of heat and gentle stretching got a perfect fit and a good bond. Looks really good in the flesh and lifts the interior.

With the offcut's I did the Prius key and my external hard disk :) waste not want not :). Thinking about doing the Alienware laptop as I am bored in the hotel at the moment.
Do my dash then :giggle:

Lookin good there Tony, the octy dash should be a doddle next to that as it's just square cut-outs for the most part innit. I'll rip the bits out sometime over the next few days hopefully. :smirk:

No worries Neilo, just drop it round and I will do it for you mate. Fancy looking after the KTM for me for 3 weeks while I am away on holiday?
Top job Mr Fluff

When you mention using the hotel hairdryer, why do I get visions of an Alan Partridge sketch with a Corby trouser press?!
